I see our game will be played at the Blue Cross arena in Rochester this year. I looked at the box score from your win there against George Mason last season and attendance was just over 4,000. I believe the seating capacity is 13,000.
Like that game ours is also on a weeknight. I'm curious what do you think about playing the game almost two hours away? The Reilly Center is typically such a raucous environment to play at did they bus your students to Rochester last year? Any plans on doing that for this year?
A four hour weeknight round trip for adult season ticket holders isn't impossible but not the easiest and of course weather can always become a factor.
Is there a large St. Bonaventure alumni in the Rochester area and this is a way to help keep a connection with them? I would think there would be a compelling reason to give up the Reilly Center advantage especially for an Atlantic 10 game.

Welcome back Joe. The game is over a break so the students will not be on campus. Moving the game to Rochester taps a local market where there are many alumni. The 4000 who attend that game probably dont attend very many games at SBU. Its a good opportunity for marketing in an area where college sports doesnt really exist, at least at the D1 level. A game at the RC when the students are not there is not a tough environment to win in.

Ok that makes sense then thanks. I imagine your Alumni Office will host a pregame reception for locals and it will be nice for them to see a game in person without taking a drive to Olean.

Playing at the Blue Cross arena in Rochester is a great idea! An out of the conference game.
JUST NOT AND A-10 GAME ...
So just because the students are on break they move the game there?
" A game at the RC when the students are not there is not a tough environment to win in. " You are sooo right kcSBU03. When the students are gone the locals pack the student seating area and give their best ! And the Bonnie team responds with a lot more will to win for us locals that are cheering them on...
HOGWASH !!!

Would be a moot point if we could get a power conference opponent to play in Rochester, but we seem to be having trouble doing that. The NU game was ok, but that crowd was pretty weak so I have no problems with making it a conference game if thats what it takes.

HOGWASH !!! Us, ( or should that be ..we..) " townies" or locals, get a bad rap sometime. When the students are on break the administration does a good job of bringing in local groups and discounting tickets so that, surprisingly, there have been some pretty good crowds even when the students aren't there. I can remember last year the RC was rocking pretty good ....

The last time (seems like only time)we beat Dayton I was sitting where, the student section, they were out on break. And by far the most exciting game I've ever been at was the 2OT win over St. Joe's. I sat in the same bleacher section that I sat in as a student, again, students out on break.. The RC absolutely can still be a tough environment to play in even without the students in attendance.

Your best experience was when you were closest to the court and in the area traditionally allocated to students?

Your best experience was when you were closest to the court and in the area traditionally allocated to students? Sorry for the blank post, still getting the hang of this. I always get seats in the bleacher section across from the Bonnie team. (where I sat many years ago). If the students are out on break I get as close to the floor and center as I can in their section. It's awesome to be sitting that close to that level of talent, better seats than you can get at a lot of HS games.

The RC is an absolutely "awesome" place to see big time D1 hoops. Especially up close. actually, even the worst seats are pretty darn good. You know what else is awesome? An AD working hard to improve that game day experience for everyone in the arena so that they will want to come back again and again. What else is awesome? Playing a home game in a large metro area without D1 sports only 2 hours from campus, exposing our hoops program and University to more potential fans, students, sponsors, etc etc.
I just don't get the whining. Bob Lanier is not taking the UC court in a very large pair of Chucks anytime soon. Unless as some on this board would have you believe, that TK is planning on knocking down the RC, planting a corn field and then plowing it under and putting up a court.
We have to try new avenues to better build revenue streams and create a stronger, wider reaching brand for the basketball program and University. Times change. Taking one game, with or without students out of the RC or adding a row of seats in front of the student section won't ruin all of our assets. Refusing to move forward will. For anyone that will not or cannot see that, post your address and I'll come over and wake you up by smacking you upside your head with my rolled up FAFSA forms.

We were 2-2 last year at home with the students gone. With losses to UMES (blah) and a Dayton whooping. We beat Jackson St. (barely) and beat Fordham soundly.

Hasn't this issue been debated at length in another thread?

Hasn't this issue been debated at length in another thread? No debate from me. I think the Rochester game is great idea. Just don't like hearing that a home game without the students is such a downer, its an insult to the people that do show up. If the new AD can convince more of the western NY alumni to actually make the effort to attend a few more games in Olean on a regular basis, that might perk the place up a bit more.
