Nothing official from the university. There was talk that we hired someone but when is the school going to make it for real?

Typical of the university, keep it a secret as long as possible. No need to inform the paying fans of what is going on.
Lots of "stuff" going on this off-season that is out of the ordinary, so where is Ron Zweirlein ? How about a "State of the Bonnies" message from our Athletic Director ? We haven't heard a word from him since the season ended and the departures started.
Why doesn't Anthony Solomon also sit down with Chuck Pollock and Vinny Pezzimenti and do an in-depth interview about the "State of the Bonnies," and answer the questions that we all have.
And I mean answer ALL the questions, not just the little 'fluff' questions that get screened and asked on the radio show. It could be a 2-parter published over 2 days and that would certainly sell papers. And it would go a long ways toward fixing the credibility of the program, credibility that certainly is in need of fixing.
Where do we stand ?
Where are we headed ?
Will the NCAA rule change that adds 2 games to the schedule result in an extra home game ? Will season ticket prices be increased again ? How is Ivan recovering from his knee injury and might he be a bigger contributor in his Senior year ? How do you see AJ Hawkins fitting into the scheme of things next season, especially with all the JUCO's coming in ? How does the loss of 3 assistants affect the team ?
We will graduate 9 players off the current roster in the next 2 years, will we continue to recruit just JUCO's to replace them , or will we go after more 4-year players ?
Your contract is up in 2 years, where do you see yourself in September 2008 ?
These are just a few of the many questions I have, I'm sure Chuck and Vinny can come up with lots more as well.
It's time to lift the veil of secrecy that they try (unsuccessfully) to place over the St. Bonaventure basketball team. Time to step up and respond to the alumni, the fans, the boosters, etal.
17-66 over the last 3 seasons - time to answer your critics.

I've been around many college communities and only in Olean do you get people who think the university owes them something. I love the idea that buying a season ticket means you can demand something from the AD and Head Coach. They should market that. "Preferred seating, VIP parking, a free media guide, and the right to pretend you're a university administrator." Brilliant! I have to admit I wasn't aware Solomon's contract was up in two years. That would answer the question as to why so many two year players were brought in. Why would any 4 year prospect commit to a school where he would be obligated to stay longer then the coach. I understand that Solomon hasn't exactly built a resume that would allow him to demand an extension, however I don't see how the university expects him to request 4 year commitments from recruits when they don't even have the faith to keep his contract at least four years out. The university should have decided by now whether they were going to keep Solomon or not. If yes, then sign him up. If no, then let him go and move on. This gray area they are in now is not helping anyone out.

I normally defend the University on all accounts but frankly I am getting very nervous by our lack of assistant coaches as we speak. It also troubles me that we had the amount of assistant coaches leave at the same time. I don't know what schools looked at those assistants and said "I want to hire them, they seem like quality coaches" I hope this is just irrational worrying but the team really needs a solid stabilizing force right now. I would like Zwerlein to be more public about everything.

I'm very worried. If we've hired and assistant coach...where is he? If we haven't...what the heck are we doing about the 3 vacancies? The number of JUCOs worries me but then with a coach who for all practical purposes is a lame duck what else can be expected? That's also probably the reason why we're not hearing anything hardly at all about any new assistant coaches.
The basketball program does indeed need a solid, stabilizing force right now. That's where Zwerlein should be front and center and very visible as AD. But he seems to be MIA.
Simply put.......what in the hell is going on with the basketball program?

How come this is such a big deal to everyone? Assistants come and go. It isn't like they're going to go into the season without assistant coaches. Just let things come together.

It's a big because no one has any faith in Soloman! Maybe if our coach came out and showed some leadership people would'nt have all this doubt about direction of program.

It's not the question of an assitant leaving. It's an entire staff. Gee and Brannen were the coaches in practice. Gee pretty much ran everything, and we saw some progress made by our big men under Brannen (Lee, Williams). When our staff consists of Solomon and the basketball operations director I'd say there's reason to worry.

I think Solomon was hired as a transition guy. He won't be around in two years, especially with this record. He was just the guy to get the program through the probation years and maybe, perhaps, build a foundation.
But Solomon has done all that is humanly possible to save this program. Has he succeeded? No, but please, short of Jesus Christ rising from the dead and becoming head coach, nobody had the power to do that. We all knew that the fallout from the scandal was going to go on for years. We're only three years away from it, and our probation is just about over. Give them a break.

For all the posters who have incessantly criticized the coaching of this team all season, I would think you would be looking at this as a great opportunity to upgrade the coaching staff, rather than a reason to worry. Frankly, I'm pretty neutral on the subject. I think the coaches that are leaving were good in many ways. I am hoping though that we can replace them with some coaches that can give this team the spark that it needs to get over the "restructuring" hump and to improve our recruiting of four-year players.

This was the lead in a recent story in the paper regarding the promotion of Jake Luhn.
Maybe the reason we haven't hired any assistants yet, is because they visited and saw their new office would be in a broom closet, and said "thanks, but no thanks" !

We could upgrade our facilities, but then a bunch of people would complain that we were disrespecting the memory of Mr. Reilly. (See the thread about making the track area usable by a sport the university actually has and has some success in.)

Sneakers makes a very good point. In terms of facilities, an upgrade is always a good thing. That said, Iv'e been in Phil Martelli's office & Coach Sol's is like a palace in comparison.
