I'm with Fro. After living next to a duplex owned by one of Olean's notorious landlords, The baseball team would've been a welcome improvement!
I too think the whole concept is asking for trouble, but the attitude of the neighborhood is frankly disappointing.
Maybe some sex offenders or crack addicts will move in instead.
Be careful of what you wish for....

I guess I am on both sides of the fence about this one. If I am Ron Z or Sudbrook, no way do I want all the baseball players living in one house together. Just not a good PR move.
However, keep in mind that University regulations prohibit anyone under the age of 21 from living off-campus during their first couple of years. So that eliminates half of the baseball players who could even potentially live there.
I guess the thing I am most disturbed about is this "revolt" by area residents to keep them away. To me, that's discrimination. Take for example a white, affluent, suburban neighborhood. Rumors are swirling that an african-american family, or even a pair of "life partners" are moving in to the neighborhood. Can the neighbors take their complaint to the Town Hall, or all get together and buy the property. Absolutely not. Explain to me how it's not any different.

I recall from my Math 101 days that 27 follows 26.

A crack house would probably be quieter neighbors.

Ladderbuddy, with that attitude, you should be a realtor.

Hey 0 balls, PA Brown Indian is out of respect, certainly not slang.
I certainly do not agree with the idea of the baseball players moving off campus, but would the residents be complaining if it were say the cross country team, or are they just complaining because it is students in general?
There is no rule about under 21 students living off campus.

if the rules state that sbu students can live off campus at a certain age, let them. if students screw up and break the laws- be they baseball players, basketball players, cello players, skellar bouncers or valedictorians...make 'em responsible for their actions. last time i checked, that's the way of the real world. college campuses tend to be protective bubbles..move off campus at your own risk. on the other hand, given the state of the real estate market in olean/allegany, i would think that any buying of property by anyone is a positive

There is no rule about under 21 students living off campus. Check the Student Handbook and get back to me. If a student under the age of 21 wants to live off campus, they have to submit it in writing to the office of George Solan.

Shows how much must I have read the student handbook, but George must grant everyone permission. Either that, or he doesn't want some people on campus, wow!
