spring time - time to emerge from weather induced dormancy !! Not where I live, CT has had a winter dormancy during April, but of course dormancy due to the the "virus" continues to hamper life as we would like to live it, and for those of us in that special generation (old folks), I fear will not get to live life as we wish until there is a vaccine.

This is a re-post, I botched the cut and paste on the transfer thread, but based on the comments here I thought I would pass this along. on Twitter, I found an open letter from Matt Painter, men's basketball coach at Purdue, that states his reasons for being diametrically opposed to the proposed immediately play transfer rule, so maybe there is still hope.

I saw that Andy Katz retweeted this,
The NCAA Division I Council also recommended that formal changes to transfer legislation be postponed to January 2021.
However, transfer waiver guidelines could still be voted on and changed next month.
I tried to find out more information, but there wasn't much there. So I thought that was encouraging, but truth be told, I guess we won't find out more until next month.

I have a feeling that 6’11 Mounir Hima will definitely be playing for someone in the Atlantic 10 next season. “Mounir Hima (@himamounir) who is currently a senior, has told me that UMass, Rhode Island, Duquesne, Iona, and St. Peters are high on his list. Texas A&M offered him a visit but got cancelled amid the coronavirus. He will be committing in a month or so. He is an athletic center.” I know we offered him last June but I know he didn’t visit or anything, think we have anymore interest with Robert Carpenter gone now?
Also, I found this on twitter: “John Orogun (@johnese716) has told me that he is going to attend a prep school next year. Then go the college route, he had offers from Oklahoma, Buffalo, and Robert Morris. Wants to become more of a forward, decision for prep school coming in mid-may.”
***I found both of these tweets on Jake Liberman’s twitter (jakelieberman2). He is a contributor for @mwcconnection and @becb_sbn

Attached is JP's article "Bona-fide toughness: Creal’s path leads to Bonnies." From article -- “Toughness.” It was the fourth word that came up in Mark Schmidt’s description of this latest addition. It was the eighth word to tumble from Pat Smith’s mouth when providing his own assessment of his top scorer from last season. -- Eddie Creal has undeniable talent, as evidenced by his selection to both the NJCAA All-Region 16 and All-Missouri Community College Athletic Conference First Teams last month. He’s a standout defensive player. -- Eddie had 4 other DI scholarship offers from Eastern Illinois, Tennessee-Martin, Southeast Missouri State and Tennessee State. -- He described himself as an up-tempo player, noting, “My main thing I do is getting to the basket. I can hit open shots as well. And I play defense — I try to produce a lot of my offense off defense.” -- Schmidt echoed that sentiment, saying, “He’s an attacking wing that can score at all three levels, is a lockdown defender and can compete on the offensive glass." www.oleantimesherald.com/olean/bona-fide-toughness-creal-s-path-leads-to-bonnies/article_d159c61e-8073-5afe-aa1d-7ffbc4f076cc.html

A few thoughts after reading JP's article on Eddie Creal.
-- JP comment about Eddie "He’s tough. It’s what he prides himself in as a player." -- Toughness is a word Schmidt has used for Eddie, Jalen Shaw and Jalen Adaway. It is apparent Schmidt wants more toughness on his team. I think it is admission more toughness was needed on the team last year. -- Really like Eddie's attitude. With 7 wings on the team, JP talks about the stiff competition Eddie will be facing at Bona. JP says "he knows, once again, he’s going to have to prove himself to crack major minutes in next year’s rotation. The competitor in him wouldn’t want it any other way." Eddie adds “I mean, I’ll do whatever little thing Coach needs me to do. “That’s just the mindset that I have — whatever the coach wants me to do, I’m going to do.”
Recruiting is a new challenge for Schmidt having to rely on Zoom and Facebook. Schmidt stated "selling of our campus and the family-type atmosphere hurts us because that’s really a big sell for us.”
Well Zoom and Facebook must be working. -- Jalen Shaw states "they treat each other like family. That’s the most important stuff, the little stuff, so that’s what put Bona over the top.” -- Eddie said "they focus on their players a lot and put them in a situation where they can succeed. I just like that about them. That’s what drove me to want to come here.”

Just and observation.
Nosing around the verbal commits data base it becomes clear that in addition to the many facets of recruiting we already know about, having an understanding of analytics as a sifting tool. I"m sure this is something that falls to someone on the staff. Not surprisingly there is so much information out there. Based on what we've seen, I feel our staff does an incredible job of not only finding young men, but making a determination if they are a fit for our program. Example, one can go on verbal commits and do a query of uncommitted players by position, by areas of the country, etc. I can't speak to the thoroughness of verbal commits to capture everybody and some of information that is listed is incomplete, but for someone that is good at ferreting out information, there appears to be a lot there.

Back to the depth chart story in the OTH, I am encouraged that Mark mentioned Adaway. He plays things pretty close to the vest and one of the few times I recall him discussing a player other then in the context of his on-court play, is his discussing English last offseason, and we saw how that turned out. So I think it is very encouraging that he raised Adaway and his potential for next year.

I saw that James Jean-Marie has entered the transfer portal and is looking for his...4th school! I am not sure if he is exactly what we need as he is not a backup pg or your typical big man. He is undersized but I think he could be a stretch 4 for us and he has an old school type of game to him and has a solid mid range game and can knock down the 3 if needed. He also looks like he would bring toughness. We even got to see him live last season as we played them in Boca. He had a decent game against us with 8 points on 4-6 fg, 6 rebounds, 2 ast in 30 minutes. San Diego was very down at 9-23 (2-14 WCC) but he was definitely a contributor and played well against Gonzaga going for 10pts and 5 rebs. Here are highlights of him from this past season. www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWZLIAMZENM&feature=youtu.be***We offered Jean-Marie July 30th, 2018. I am not sure if he is eligible right away as a grad transfer and he is from Montreal so maybe he would want to return closer to home for his final season. Being at 3 schools may have delayed his graduation process with credits but again I am not sure. *** Other offers he had when he chose San Diego was St. Bonaventure, North Texas, Oregon State, East Carolina, Texas State, Texas-Rio Grande Valley, and Florida International. If I remember correctly, he had a stretch in the first half that was killing us-from mid range and grabbing rebounds. Then their two leading scorers for the game started bombing in long threes before we finally took the game late.

Nothing too exciting here.
Just saw that chuckle Maggie on twitter had noted it was two years ago today that Osun had decommited from la sale. I remember thinking at the time, maybe we ve got a shot.
Sometimes you make your own good luck, so happy that Osun chose Bonas.
Maybe chuck is right Andrew maybe done for 2020. We ve got a good squad. I still believe we are still looking for a talent too good to pass on.
Just a reminder, it s that time of year.
