Just a suggestion. Firstdev might want to look up a docudrama called "The Sultan and the Saint" that was presented on PBS. It recounts a meeting between Francis and the Sultan of Egypt in 1219 and includes commentary from Franciscan historians. It might expand your views on Francis and Islam.

Sister Duquesne = Has been gone for 4 years. Living quietly in retirement. Has no influence with SBU Administration/Board.
Duquesne Crew = Most departed with the retirement of Sister Duquesne. Dead issue.
Mosque = Never built. Shot down by current administration and Board. Dead issue.
Hilbert merger = Shot down by Board. Dead issue.
SBU is becoming like SUNY = Friar recently hired by SBU administration specifically to integrate Franciscan Catholicism into every area of SBU.
Swan Business Building = Well placed in the academic facilities area of SBU. Architecture way superior to Plassman and Reilly.
I am asking the Bandwagon administrators to ban First Dev. I believe that he has some sort of nonsensical mental hang-up with the previous administration that contradicts reality (see above points). It has been noted that potential students and their parents are likely to read this board and be turned off to the University by First Dev's mental issues. Time to make sure that doesn't happen.

Pope Francis himself cited that historic meeting in January when he visited Abu Dhabi

I was on campus Friday and I saw the Francis hall parking lot project. I was a little concerned because I love that green space in front of Francis Hall but its so massive, this parking lot will only take up a small piece of that area.
--
However- the beautiful bushes that spell out St. Bonaventure in front of the Chapel / Doyle Hall were gone. Is it just offseason maintenance? is it common to remove it completely and then re-plant? whats' the story there?

Can we stop calling it a Mosque, which is a reference born out of firstdev's blatant Islamophobia? (also, this is a reason to be in favor of the ban).
It was a non-denominational prayer space on campus. What exactly is the issue with this? A growing source of enrollment for Catholic schools is Muslim students and students practicing other religions. They're drawn to Catholic schools because its not weird to be religious on a religiously-affiliated campus.

Hey tasty, it's my understanding that the St. Bonaventure bushes were dying, mostly the result of deer eating them. I heard that the plan is to replace them with plants not typically eaten by deer, perhaps boxwoods.

In fact a mosque was planned until many alums just like myself vigorously protested to the BoT, who quickly torpedoed the idea. Yet another poorly thought out initiative from the FD group. Imagine a mosque on a Catholic campus for a religious group openly hostile to Catholics - want to attend mass in Saudi Arabia - good luck - you could be tried and sentenced to death for such a feat. Oh and by the way a Franciscan cross is now prominently featured in the "non denominational meeting area". Nothing islamophobic about - islamic jihadists murdered over 8,000 American in NYC and Iraq, including numerous fellow alums in the TT area of Manhattan, and or serving with US Armed Forces in Iraq. Get your facts straight. Stop being a apologist for jihadi terrorists.

Your negative, false and fixated spins on almost anything connected with Sister Margaret's administration? Dude.....she's long gone and isn't coming back. Get a grip and a life....to include getting serious psychiatric help.

It has been noted that potential students and their parents are likely to read this board and be turned off to the University by First Dev's mental issues. Time to make sure that doesn't happen. My call for FirstDev's ban has less to do with his/her extreme views (however troubling) and more to do with his/her incessant bickering and trolling. FirstDev seems to derail every single thread he/she jams their big 'ol oily thumb into. They've been doing it on here for decades -- when I first joined the bandwagon after I graduated one of the first threads I read was I believe about the baseball field renovations and there was FirstDev pulling the thread into a conversation about the ROTC program and how people who don't support George Bush are unpatriotic. I expect people to have a wide variety of political and religious views but I don't expect to read about them on a thread about new recruits. What the fuck must total strangers think when they read FirstDev's batshit inner neurosis spewed upon these pages daily. What a loathsome life FirstDev must live walking around assuming everyone who doesn't live to his/her ideals of Catholicism is burdened with mortal sins and destined to a life in hell.... I feel bad for you FirstDev. But please give it a rest and I honestly hope you find some peace.

Apparently the extreme left has a problem with historical memory.......hundreds of thousands of faithful Catholics were summarily executed in Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales. Their "crime" was the their attendance at mass and reception of holy communion. Certainly a side of the 'reformation' you missed in class - hungover? St. Francis did not directly go from being a soldier to a priest, he had a career in business in between, just for your knowledge. St Francis supported the Crusaders, and at one point attempted to mediate a peace deal between the Crusader leadership and the Caliphate of Egypt in order to guarantee access for Catholic pilgrims to the holy sites in Jerusalem. Was this before or after George Washington flew over the Delaware ??
