Well...the BV shit the bed all of last year so this comes as no surprise. how about we as a group come up with some good, constructive suggestions?...you "j" majors from way back when to the days of jandoli and evans...i'll bet you've got some ideas...and you younger "j" alums...i read it every week...i was no "j" major but i've noticed a few things that could be worked on...let's spell them out here and hope somebody reads it...

I am willing to bet that the current students have barely read a newspaper in their lives.

Go to the Friedsam archives site and pull up some of the BVs from the past couple of decades. The BV had in-depth reporting on a wide variety of topics and the stories were very well written. The hands of the J School profs were quite evident and that's what is missing today. The BV used to be a J School teaching tool. Dr. Jandoli must be rolling over in his grave with the current fishwrap being produced. If money is needed a simple ask from the J School alumni would produce the needed $$$$.

I think the BV is likely mostly losing its best and most dedicated writers to the Intrepid. Any student who wants to be prepared for a journalism career after graduation wouldn’t want to spend so much time only focusing on print journalism.

I think the BV needs to adapt to changing times my suggestions on what they could improve are below.
1. Get stories on the BV website posted throughout week. Get them up while relevant - specifically sports stories. 2. Put out print copies every other week and only have the best of what is on the website. 3. Partner with SBU TV and have reporters have a print story to partner with the TV report (like a real news org). 4. Increase social media engagement from the BV accounts. Live tweet events/ post to instagram. 5. Allow the BV to count towards more internship hours. When I was there writing for the BV could fulfill part of the J school internship requirement but not all not sure if this is still the case. 6. Partner with a Marketing class and have the Marketing class design ads for future events on campus or for different clubs. 7. Talk to SIMM to see what they are doing to increase student engagement. I think the last couple of years the SIMM group has had double the membership it did when I was on campus 10 years ago. They must be doing something right.

I think this thread should be moved to the “Off Topic” folder.

Let's make this on-topic and on-brand for the Bandwagon by changing the topic of this thread to a discussion about third-string small forwards from the 1960s.

Does anyone know if any former basketball players have ever written for the BV?

oh hell yes, it's another "baby boomers blame millennials/gen z and compare everything to their time at bonas when tuition was 15 bucks and 2 holy cards" thread.
