If GW can hold on against the Dukes I think 3-2 the rest of the way should get us a double bye

62-57 GW, 3:30. One thing is certain...Bona must take no foe lightly in this stretch drive. Regardless of league standing.

Yessir. G-dub holds off Dukes, 70-67. Like Davidson, Duquesne didn't know Jack (20 pts). The kid who made the difference was Toro, 16/14 off the pine. Ole'!
So, it's Spidey 10-3 (3), Bona 9-4 (4), Duq 8-5 heading to Saturday. And Dukes are at UD. Have fun.
Go Bonnies!

GW was up 14 with just 5 mins to play. I was starting to feel good that the DUKES would be 1 game behind us.
Then the DUKES full court press looked like VCU at their very best. GW looked totally flustered unable to get the ball in bounds without an immediate turn over. Result was a 3 point lead with 35 secs.
Coughing the ball up and missing 4-6 FTs in the final mins looked like they were going to blow the game but they escaped.
Some trash talking in this one. Dunn Martin went 2-10. Thankful that DALE went for 27!!

I watched the GW-Duquesne game and came away with a couple observations. We still have one to play versus the Dukes and GW is a possible tourney opponent, so here goes. Except for the game against us in Pittsburgh, the Dukes three point shooting is middling-to-poor, and they continue to trend to going long stretches where they can't score from three, and given their insistence to keep firing up from beyond the arc, thus going scoreless for long stretches. GW meanwhile, displayed some coaching-related faults, starting with poor handling of late-game pressure. They insisted on having Battle heavily involved in breaking high pressure, including being the one to inbound the ball, or receiving the in bound pass. He appeared to be unprepared to handle either job, often clearly panicking, leading to a turn-over. And their PG Potter clearly is not the take-charge type of PG you'd like when facing late-game pressure, as he seemed to disappear at times. When they did get the ball to the front court, as soon as the ball got in Toro's hands down low, the Dukes fouled the 53% free throw shooter, whose form is horrible. He just stops his motion at the high point of his stroke. I can't believe this hasn't been coached out of him yet. The Dukes had the opportunity to pull out the win, but just could't hit the shots that were falling against us.

Who are we rooting for in the SLU/VCU game?

Who are we rooting for in the SLU/VCU game? It's pick your poison. I would go SLU, some payback for the A10 final, plus VCU is a thorn in Bona's side.

I think we want SLU. I don't want to see VCU in Brooklyn, so if they can get pushed all the way down to 7-10 that would be great.
I'm intrigued by VCU being a two point road favorite in this game while Kenpom gives SLU the slight edge. I would guess that Vegas thinks Evans is playing.
My oversimplified take on VCU is they need to force turnovers and one and outs to score points. SLU is great on the offensive glass, if Collins doesn't turn the ball over a bunch of times, SLU should win.

The Dukes had the opportunity to pull out the win, but just could't hit the shots that were falling against us. I actually worry that the Duqs discovered something at the end of this game. The discovery is that they have the pieces to be a good pressing team. Yes, Battle and Potter struggled to break the pressure but Duq had Carry playing inside Potter's jersey and Hughes was on the inbounder, Battle. If I remember correctly they had Weathers patrolling the 3/4s court area as a free safety looking to pick off the pass to half court. Yes GW did a bad job of handling that pressure but I think Hughes is pretty hard to pass around, combine that with Carry playing ultra aggressive your only option is to pass to the corner where Hughes is going to trap and now to get out of it you have to make a pass that Weathers is waiting on or get it back to the inbounder. If the Duqs do this to us that inbounder is either Bobby or Winston. I'm not sure either of them will handle the pressure any better than Battle did. The good news is Duq isn't built to play this way for the entire game, but if they decided to do it for 3-4 possession spurts throughout the game it would make them more dangerous.

SLU is taking VCU to the cleaners. Totally outclassing the Virginians, shooting, rebounding, you name it. Devonte Perkins is a darn good player for the Billikens. He will bear watching on the reg season closer.

No doubter. SLU 80-62. Perkins with 25.
Billikens are finding their mojo, and will be one tough team to beat down the stretch and in Brooklyn.

SLU pushed the ball at a frantic speed always moving North South down the middle of the court preventing VCU from setting their traps. Collins a freshman had 8 assists in the first 15 mins. Great composure for a frosh. Had only 7 pts & 5 TOs but his 12 assists and controlling the pace was a big factor in the win.
PERKINS and FRENCH were unstoppable. If FRENCH is not doubled in the paint he backs in for sure buckets. Pick your poison, if doubled he passes out for an open trey.
4th consecutive loss for VCU - first time in 20 years!
Silva down low is another requiring doubling and again the pass to outside hurts you.
Good thing this was not a close game. Both teams made only 27-50 FTs.
Our fimal game against the Billikens is in their packed and loud arena.
