A wonderful retrospective of the old muni leagues.
A was a batboy for Blue Bird Bus, served on an Olean fast pitch championship team that featured Big Ron Wilson, Wayne Dornsife, Herbie Elmore and Jerry Padlo.
Tom Irons, a great guy and probably the best pitcher of his time. Clark Bros. had Tom Carney on the bump with support from Bob Beckwith, Dave Blackstone and Tom Davie.
When it came to power hitting, Big Ron, Tom Keane and Joe Moran could hit the ball a mile. They could tape measure when they got hold of one.
Marcus Park was filled many nights. Folks parked their cars behind the fence and honked their horns on home runs. I remember playing so many pickup games on that dusty infield.
The Senecas were a blast to watch. Morrie Abrams was a superb shortstop, and his brother Wayne behind the plate exhorted his pitchers with his "Ha-mabe" call.
Managers I recall, Motor and Mego Anastasia, and Casey Jones.
Olean muni fast pitch was an indelible part of my childhood. Thanks for sharing!

For those who don't know, this blog is written by Jim Pransky, former coach of St. Bonaventure baseball, and a retired major league scout.
