So maybe Schmidt knew this and did keep one scholarship in his pocket.

Very difficult in this era of transfers to keep players happy with their roles. Next man up.

First off, I am disappointed that Carpenter is leaving. I felt this might be his time to shine. I don't fault him any and I wish him well.
So indeed that may be the case. The question then becomes are you still actively looking for talent, my thoughts would be the 6'7" or 6' 8" 245 lb guy, I was thinking Andy Sisco from D2 Damean, who has said he was staying, but maybe there's interest? Of, maybe a grad transfer, or do you run the risk if you go that route of someone else leaving? Going into the season with just four real front court players to me, is a little bit scary, I feel a little better. positioned with Winston having a year under his belt and Shoot and Shaw somewhat interchange able if you wanted to play either one at PF and one at C. I have high hopes for Quinn. Maybe coach thinks he could get minutes out of Creal there. The story continues.....

I was waiting for the possibility of another shoe dropping but as we were getting late in the game I thought that just maybe Coach Schmidt would do what he has never done. Use all his ships.
Wish ROB all the best. I had high hopes for him.
Typically when coaches meet with all their players and talk about next season they provide signals on PT for those marginal players not getting play. Sometimes they may even encourage a transfer and assist with a move to a better match. My guess is that ROB did not fall into that 2nd category. BUT he was probably sensing that the coach did not have confidence in his game to see a substantial change in his role. When you get just 27 secs in a total blowout you know where you stand.
Hate to see him leave. With the pandemic there may be other concerns by players as they decide to transfer. I look forward to ROB playing well at his next school.

I did not see this coming at all and if I had to guess a player who might still leave I would have picked Alpha Okoli due to playing time. I see every guard on our roster now besides Malik Lacewell being higher on the depth chart than Okoli.

I never want a see a player forced out the door. If they want to stay, they stay. We are not a big enough school, or a rich enough school, or have such an outstanding BB reputation - to force kids out, like some large programs have the reputation for doing. That being said, this may be a situation where maybe Robert felt he was "overrecruited". Maybe he saw the play of Jalen Shaw (bigger, and what appears to be a good inside game), the development of Justin over the season, the high ceiling of our incoming frosh, and saw maybe handwriting on the wall. He showed some ability in the time he did play, but was not able to move in front of Ikpeze, which shows what Coach thought of his ability as a frosh. I wish him well.

I am not sure if Rob sees himself as over-recruited or under valued. Maybe like almost all players today and their parents/guardians, they fail to see the value in working harder and competing for more playing time — and all the character and confidence that builds for later in life. It’s an immediate gratification world. It happens in middle school, high school, AAU and up. Could be Rob didn’t feel he would get the chance to compete. Or he doesn’t understand Or care about the back-stories of Dion Wright or Idris Taqqee who were lightly recruited and didn’t get much of a chance in year one, but believed in hard work and skills development. Yes I’m an old fart and believe these old world values are slipping away!!

Or maybe adjusting to living in Olean isn’t for everyone. Or he wants to study a major we don’t offer. Or he wants to be closer to home.
There’s any number of reasons why he could transfer. We don’t need to go to the negative with someone who there were only positive stories and high hopes.

Wish Rob C well going forward.

You likey would not even know this kid if he walked by him on the street yet you cast your negative opinion - Im old school too - and speaking ill of someone you know nothing about is wrong ! Please save your 'old school work eithic etc etc etc"...

Of all Bonnie transfers, Rob Carpenter might have the most impressive press clippings. I think he still had the potential to become a quality player for Bona. I thank Rob for choosing the Bonnies and wish him the best.

l met Rob during Reunion Weekend last year. Using the words of Anthony Solomon, he was a fine young man, and he truly is. I talked with him for almost 30 minutes, going over Bonaventure history, and he really.was courteous listening to this old man. I was really impressed by him, and I rooted for him during the season. Sorry to see him go, and I wish him the best of luck, and I am confident he will be successful wherever he goes.
Thanks, Rob, for being a Bonnie.

Sorry, I tried to cut and paste a link from Twitter that was an open letter from Matt Painter, mens basketball coach at Purdue, who came out diametrically opposed to the new immediate play transfer rule. So maybe there's still hope.
