How about a home and home with Valparaiso or Loyola of Chicago now that we have Chicago talent? Neither have been interested. Loyola has much better options available to them. They aren't going to make a trip to Olean. They currently have home/home deals with St. Joe's, Davidson, DePaul, and they just signed on to play in the 2022 Atlantis tournament. Actually, Loyola Chicago could have interest. Two weeks ago I wrote to both Tim Kenney and Steve Watson, Loyola AD and former SBU AD. Heard back from Watson in a matter of hours but nothing yet from Tim. There have been talks but they haven't been able to work out dates. Chicago is a fertile recruiting ground as we are about to find out; we have a good, active alumni group out there; and it could improve our midwestern and national presence. Certainly Loyola has been getting strong national press in the last few years. Don't think we could get anything done for this year but a home/home starting in 2021 would be good. As for coming to Olean, Watson loves the Beef and Barrel.

Pinnum you might have information that I'm not privy to, you addressed Loyola Chicago ( mid major ) that might travel to Rochester if Olean is too off the map and left Valpo ( which has it's own scheduling issues) with no excuse.
So any suggested mid major is a no go. If I suggest the teams everyone is dissing, who does that leave?

Last year I suggested Gannon - wow look what we got - Gannon!
Let's go back to playing Rutgers, Seton Hall, Providence or Kent State
Although I like the Cuse' strategy of play numerous low level teams and getting their winning game in motion.

I think you got a nice reply as a courtesy but there isn't any intention from Watson. And your own comment says exactly why... Reasons it would be great for the Bonnies: Chicago is a fertile recruiting ground as we are about to find out; we have a good, active alumni group out there; and it could improve our midwestern and national presence. But in the past they simply haven't been interested. The those Midwest schools haven't seemed interested in recruiting WNY. They have been more willing to play other Midwest teams who are maybe top-150 which will give them good games, don't have great home environments (so they aren't too hard to win at) and are located in areas their coaching staff is actively recruiting. Valpo also tends to get bought or to play non-D1 games so they don't have to spend money on travel. I think we would have a better chance buying Valpo than getting a home/home. (Remember we were able to buy UNC-Wilmington when they were good because everyone was ducking them).

I've been puzzled by some of the antipathy re the Paradise Jam field. Bradley is the defending Valley champion, solid mid-major. Weber State among the Big Sky elite. The Beach plays one of the most competitive schedules annually. Throw in Cleve St and our probation pal UB and it's a decent field. Not too shabby, I'd say. It appears to some on this board that if we don’t have Duke or Kentucky at home, we didn’t try hard enough. Little Rock might be the best team in this field. Let’s not forget about them.

That's a good list of teams. Bonas' should play teams people around the country have heard of.

We keep on mentioning the 20 game schedule, I also like the idea of a 19 game conference schedule, where the A10 is broken down to 2 7 team divisions, where we play home and away with the 6 other teams in our division and then once against the other division. That would also change the format of the tournament (the 2 top teams in each division get byes). This would somewhat remove the complaints about an unbalanced schedule. And could allow both growth within the conference and contraction if necessary. It has advantages and disadvantages, just worth the discussion.

There is no way A-10 members would agree to a 19 game schedule whereby some teams get more home games. That is the main reason league schedules are typically always an even number that can be equally divided into home and away games.

I like FJS idea of A-10 going to 2 divisions of 7 teams. RF1 is correct 19 conference games wouldn't work. Make it a 20 game conference schedule. Each school plays 2 games in division (12 games) and one game out of division (7 games) and rotate playing another game with school from other division for a 20 game schedule. Division games help to increase rivalries.
Biggest advantage with 20 game conference schedule is it helps with non-conference scheduling. I'm in favor of any format that would replace Gannon and Mercer, with A-10 games.
