Verbal Commits is reporting BOBBY PLANUTIS is transferring from ST. BONAVENTURE. verbalcommits.com/players/bobby-planutisI am sad, but was expecting it. His role for next year could well have been minimal, so he made the decision. I wonder how this works, he played 1 year, then transferred, sat out a year, then played....so if he stayed at Bona's he had 2 years of eligibility, so what happens. He sits a year (if the new transfer rules do not go into effect) then does he have 2 years or 1 year left (I thought you had 4 years in 5 year window). Or can he graduate and be a grad transfer? I met Bobby in June of 2018, we talked for about 10 minutes. He was a great kid, we talked Bona basketball history, talked to him about Tom and Sam and he was really interested. I watched him that night scrimmaging, he was the best on the court, he could shoot, handle the ball, drive and rebound. What I saw built up my expectations of what he could be. Sorry he did not make it, he had a 6th sense about him, I guess we call it a nose for the ball. It was clearly evident in the OOC part of the schedule, but alas, as the competition got tougher he was not as capable on the court, and his shot never got to what I had expected. I wish him well. maybe we will play against him in the MAAC.....

Won't be the last...honestly didn't expect Boca to be one of them...think there may be 2 more that open up, at a minimum.
We need to watch the NCAA vote coming next month on the 1-time transfer being eligible immediately. Likely to pass - could be unprecedented movement....

I am not surprised at this watching him at the end of the season, especially, and detecting him seemingly out of the social realm of this team more and more as the season went along...I'm not sure how much his lack of accurate shooting from 3-point range and the criticism he got after coming in as a dead-eye trey shooter had to do with this but I imagine it didn't help. A pivitol moment of the season was the OT loss to Duquesne that seemed to send things spiraling downward and his turnover of stepping out of bounds seemed to be highlighted in that loss. Nonetheless, I was happy with his overall play this year and even though I knew Winston would take his spot in the starting line-up and not look back, I was looking forward to having Bobby Buckets around for two more years...There are worse players out there to take his place...Hopefully, we see better substitutes though....Good luck, Bobby!!

Well, that is too bad.He seemed like a good guy. At least he got to play and show what he could do.Maybe too much pressure on himself Hope he lands at a good fit and does well.

Best of luck to Bobby. A real nice kid who deserves all the best.
No doubt he is disappointed in his season.
21 mpg, 5.4 ppg, 39% FGs, 25% TREYS, 72% FTs, 4.2 rebs, 0.7 A/TO Ratio.
He has reason to be disappointed and realized the A10 was not a good match to play lots of mins.
His lack of athleticism, speed, hops and muscle betrayed him time after time. His defense relied on fouling to stop his man. He committed more fouls than anyone on the team. One every 8 mins. Next was DOM committing one every 14 mins. Of course I'm not counting AMADI who was a fouling machine (1 every 6.7 mins).
Coach Schmidt gave him every opportunity to prove himself. I think he really liked him and was slow to curtail his mins till the DUKES game. I agree with CoachSBU that the loss was a mortal wound to the team and Coach lost confidence in him and he sensed it.
I'm sure his post season meeting with Coach Schmidt had him realize the potential for a reduced role next season.
Look forward to his success at a lower level.

Sad to see this. Like many here, I felt if he could re-find his stroke, all his other positives would have made him a valuable addition going forward. Still, I don’t think his leaving is going to create a hole that can’t be filled by others already on the roster. In particular I think that Winston’s ability to hit the trey from deep with provide the match-up problem for opponents that was expected of Bobby. Plus I think Justin’s game skills will expand over the summer provided AAU hoops resumes this summer in NJ, which I think it will. I think Justin should be able to provide the offensive rebounding that Bobby did and would have going forward. With his ‘ship available, I am hoping for a Center who can provide some help next year, even if limited, but who is primarily a development project.

I had high hopes for Bobby. I think we all did. I was expecting a marksman from 3. I thought he was going to be a major contributor. Unfortunately, it never clicked. He was in a rut from start to finish. There were some glimmers of hope, but “Boca Bobby” never found any consistency.
I wish him well.

I for one, am sorry to see Bobby go, wish him well, and will count him as a Bonnie forever. We all owe him thanks for gutting out the season and contributing to our success. Would he lose minutes to Winston going forward-sure. Winston should be a special player for us. Was Bobby over his head in the A10? Maybe but we will never really know. I do know this. He had an injury in the preseason. One of those "minor" injuries that you can play through but hampers you until it could be rested properly. With Osun and English out early and most of our depth brand new, Bobby was forced in. Often in a new position. I would think that effected his stroke early, that spread to confidence and snowballed. But he stuck it out, hustled, guarded bigger guys, rebounded, etc etc. Let's hope he finds a good spot to finish out his career. Who knows, maybe he makes his way back some day as a coach?

I’m sad to see him go as well. I was hoping Bobby could hit the reset button and come back stronger next year. I think he still had a role on this team. I don’t think Winston is ready for 30 minutes a night. This team needs help at the wing and 4 position.

Likeable guy who we wanted more from, unless he jumped next year he’s replaceable. where’s a good landing spot? Robert Morris type school where he can start, overachieve at the 3 where his lank could be an asset
Damn, wish Carpenter played more; to keep him interested, development & see what he really has .... Metcalf also gets a bigger look too
Alternative lineup if OO & Dom keep getting bigger & older.. a lineup of OO, Kyle & 3 from the 6-3 to 6-6 collection of AJ, English, Dom, Jalen, MattJ
Keeping adding quality guys, the cream will rise to the top....

I wish Bobby all the best. I'm sure he saw the writing on the wall with Justin's minutes increasing and Metcalf ooming in. Too bad - he could have still given us good "veteran" minutes off the bench - but as the season wore on, it became apparent that he was never going to be a prime-time contributor. TOP PRIORITY - NEED to get a seasoned TRANSFER (Grad Xfer ?) with some size and LBS to bang with the frontlines of the TOP squads in the A10.

Bobby P tried, he really did. But it seemed that the pressure and expectations proved too much. His body language, particularly late in the season, spoke volumes.
P found out that A10 ball is a whole lot more rugged than the NEC.
I hope Bobby finds a school and a program that will be a better fit, and wish him well.

Too bad for Bobby - he did have a few highlights for the Brown and White. I do understand his presumed rationale for leaving, but I am still of the old school that you suck it up and try to take advantage of the opportunity you have been given.
I really respect players like Amadi who gave it his all here for four years. He could've transferred after Osuni arrived and after he saw OO's skill level which left Amadi on the bench.
Look at Nelson Kaputo who kept thinking he had a chance to start, but Bonas kept bringing in other players (Mobley, Posely, Lofton) who kept him sidelined. He could've transferred, but he stayed and played hard for four years. Too bad he couldn't have hit the big basket against St. Louis in the A-10 finals last year.
