In today's OTH JP Butler asks from all players that attended St. Bonaventure who would you want on your team in a clutch game. After some thought, I kind of agree with his choice "I’d probably go with the following group of five: Lanier, Hollis, Green, Price and Posley. That way, I’d have all my bases covered: a dominant big man, a high-scoring forward, a tremendous point guard, one of the program’s top rebounders and a guard who not only filled it up on a regular basis, but was one of the most clutch players in Bona history." What does everyone else think? www.oleantimesherald.com/olean/pick-your-bona-starting-five-from-these-legends/article_6357acfa-de85-5800-ba61-3db8e546ce51.html

I couldn't support any team that didn't include Tom Stith as a starter.

C : LANIER PF : NICHOLSON SF : STITH PG : HAGAN SG : POSELY 6th MAN : STOCKARD i like Lanier, Stith and Hagan...i'd put Glenn Price with the bigs...i would have loved to have seen Glenn get that 4th year of eligibility...and to play with a group that would've maximized his talents even more...and i would go with Greg Sanders instead of Posley...now you've got the combo from the NIT championship team (Hagan and Sanders) and a front 3 that would give any opponent fits...i'd go with Nicholson as the first man off the bench for the bigs and for the guards i'm going to go with a bit of a wild card: Billy Kalbaugh...he and Lanier were the best combo for us ever...and i wonder what kind of scorer he would be if he didn't have to worry about ball-handling duties...and, of course, he could handle the ball so he could be versatile at both guard postions...

Another part of JP's article "Pick your starting five from these legends" has a fun twist. You're given $15 as a kind of salary cap. Now build your team with $15 dollar restriction from following players. Player not listed would be $1. $5: Lanier, Nicholson, T. Stith, Jaylen and Sanders. $4: Bremer, Crawford, Essie, Belcher, Vanterpool. $3: Sam Stith, Hagan, Marques, Winn, Butler. $2: Mark Jones, George Carter, Kalbaugh, Price, Gantt. $1: Mobley, Posely, Courtney, Baron, Rocky Llewellyn. ---------------------------------------------------------------- My $15 team. $5: Lanier and Nicholson $3: Hagan $1: Mobley and Miles Aiken (I'm assuming he can play SF). Miles 20.3 ppg. is 5th on Bonnies all time scoring leaders. In place of Matt Mobley I wanted to use Harry Moore for $1, but he would be another post player. 3 post players would not be a realistic team. Excluding $5 players, I think best value is Glenn Hagan. He scored 1,396 points and on NIT champs averaged 16.1 ppg. Hagan's 16.1 ppg is impressive when you consider his teammates are All Time Bona leading scorers; #1 Sanders, #3 Belcher and #7 Hollis. What a great team and to think when the game was on the line it was "Glenn Hagan Time." To be fair Belcher was a freshman on the team. Belcher was 6th man on the team and averaged 7.3 ppg. www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/st-bonaventure/1978.htmld2o2figo6ddd0g.cloudfront.net/y/k/oyrbopk5r65et0/2020_Record_Book.pdf

I saw Crawford play during my Bona years & watched Nicholson on TV only. Fred Crawford was a better athlete and a better all-around player than Nicholson and it's not even close.
