Boston University and a few other schools are talking about not bring students back on campus till Spring term 2021.
There are many questions surrounding the near future of sports at all levels.
This is typically a time for players to work on strength development, stamina and drills to hone ball handling and shooting. At this point, most are at home lacking access to gyms & weight training equipment. A good # of our players left campus for their homes where they are sheltered in place in hot spot areas. I have been thinking about how many may have tested positive and are recovering or recovered. How many may have lost loved ones especially grandparents?
Wonder what the plan will be to bring our guys back on campus to work on their game. The Enchanted Mts is a far safer location than where they are now and can provide proper training.

I suspect a decision about athletics will be made at the NCAA level and schools will have to comply with that.
Regarding BU and others talking about not bringing students back - they're planing for a worst case scenario. That article about BU seems to be getting passed around as though they're definitely not bringing students back in the fall. They, like all smart institutions that are paying attention, are looking at what campus looks like without students present for Fall 2020...that's it. I hope that Bona's is taking a look at that as well.

I do believe that location plays a big part in the planning......Boston is a lot more concerning than would Olean. I could see campus life changing....more restrictions on travel, smaller classroom sizes. As students return, each being tested as they go to the dorms in August, this pass or fail allows them to use the dorms and go to class. But what happens to those who live off campus....safer in the enchanted mountains than in Boston, but lots of decisions.
Related to basketball, would a later starting OOC be better, say December 1 . Lots of decisions, would games in big cities (NY) be canceled or moved. then regarding our team, when can they return to campus.....I would like a July 1 date at the latest.....how do they keep up academically, how do they work out if not on campus, all the gyms, the high schools are closed. So many questions....I don't envy the football schools, their decision comes before basketball must make its decision......if the NCAA makes the decision, then know decision would be the right one......for Oklahoma, for Boston College.....situation is different.

The decision to bring people back to campus isn't whether or not its safe in Olean. Its where are the people coming from. Two of our freshman are from some of the hardest hit places going right now. Vasquez is from the epicenter of the epicenter in New York. Carpenter, from Detroit, isn't that far behind.
There are a lot of students coming from areas that may have it worse than Olean does at the moment. I'm sure Olean would not want Bonaventure to open if they're bringing back students from these areas.
In theory, testing everyone is a great idea. In reality, there's a lot of questions around that. Just a few: 1 - Would we even be able to get enough tests for that? 2 - Could we get enough tests to also test commuters, faculty, staff, and dining staff? 3 - What do we do with people who come back and test positive? 4 - If the disease spikes again somewhere, how do we prevent people from leaving campus to avoid bringing it back?
Regarding sports, Oklahoma and Boston College would be making different decisions based on different factors. However, as we saw from basketball, conferences will decide what they're doing with athletics first and NCAA will react to that. I don't think the ACC will allow Georgia Tech to practice and play games if Boston College can't. The Big 12 won't let Oklahoma return to practice if Texas isn't. The A-10 isn't going to let us come back and practice if George Washington can't.

a grim picture any way you look at it...hoops aside, if sbu doesnt open in august/september, the local economy will take another roundhouse to the chops--

Don't panic. I agree with the thought that just because certain people are kicking around "worst-case scenarios" doesn't mean that's what's going to happen, or that's what they've decided to do already. It's just a matter of keeping options open and playing "what if" to consider a wide range of possibilities so they can have thought things out in advance. My son-in-law worked as a financial planner for a bank and they used to have him run scenarios like this - not necessarily a pandemic, but what happens if, for any reason, there is a sudden decrease in our income of X%, where X represents a serious and unprecedented bad number. Theoretically, that bank is a little better prepared to deal with this now.

One possibility to consider; how many would think twice about attending a crowded. gym filled with yelling fans as early as November?

At this time I am very apprehensive about being in crowds. Until the situation becomes clearer, we are contemplating renewing our tickets but staying away from large gatherings. Have been a Bonas fan for 60+ years but my health is more essential than my attendance.
