This was really insightful. Want to relisten to parts and watch a couple of games to see what he is talking about in action.

I learned more about his strategy and philosophy in 15 min than I had learned in the last 13 years of watching.

So which one of these guys was the "social butterfly" who didn't fit in?
Jermaine Calvin James Williams Lounceny Kaba AJ Hawkins Jourdan Morris
It was announced on May 1, 2007 that Hawkins and Morris would be transferring. I can't find a record of when it was determined the other three weren't returning for Schmidt's first season. Although he mentions having 4-5 players when he arrived, so they might have already been gone.

So which one of these guys was the "social butterfly" who didn't fit in? Jermaine Calvin James Williams Lounceny Kaba AJ Hawkins Jourdan Morris -- Jermaine Calvin quit with just a few games left in the season. He went directly to Watson to complain about Solomon and then told Watson he is leaving. -- James Williams transferred after 6 games. -- Lounceny Kaba was a JUCO, who played just 1 year. He graduated after one year at Bona. You are correct, Hawkins and Morris had exit interviews with Schmidt. It was rumored both were leaving and it did not matter if Solomon was retained. I would not call him a "social butterfly" but I'm almost certain Schmidt was referring to Jourdan Morris. Schmidt mentions he had 4 players left from Solomon, but he had to talk Zarryon Fereti into staying. At the end of the season, Solomon kicked Fereti off the team. Jermaine Calvin and Fereti were friends as both came to Bona from a JUCO Southern Idaho. Fereti was ready to transfer with Calvin, but Schmidt convinced him into staying at Bonas. It is a good thing as Fereti was the 2nd leading scorer on the team at 13.8 ppg. At 6'3" Fereti was 3rd on the team in rebounds. www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/st-bonaventure/2008.html

Not to pile on a guy that was 18ish at the time but I immediately thought Schmidt was talking about Morris. I had class with him and he wasn't a Schmidt type of player based on what I saw.

How is this for trivia? Solomon had 12 players, who played for him leave the program. Only 5 transferred to a DI school; AJ Hawkins, Jourdan Morris, Jermaine Calvin, Isiah Carson and Willie Morse. Of the 5 players, Jourdan Morris had the highest scoring average of 7.2 ppg his senior year at High Point. AJ Hawkins is the only other player to average more than 5 ppg. AJ averaged 6.6 ppg in his only year at Wichita State. www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/st-bonaventure/2007.html

Hawkins was/is a really good person. And he had talent. I wish Schmidt coulda talked him into sticking around. So glad those days are behind us though

So glad those days are behind us though I first met/saw AJ when he was at South Kent School, where he was prepping. I was looking at the school for my son at the time, and the Admissions person pointed out AJ to me while on the tour....not really sure if we talked. Yes, he was a good kid, I believe after one year at Wichita State, he played at Oklahoma Baptist Here is a link to his website, it also includes his Bio: www.ajhawkinsbasketball.net/#!

Looking at the old Roster that Chuck referred to, a name stuck out that I had not thought of in a long time - Paul Williams, who transferred from Siena. I really think he would be a great contributor at the 4 and 5 for this team. 6-9, decent scorer and rebounder.
