Ugh, LEE cannot finish lay up at 1.6 seconds left in game as WILDCATS lose(Friars always have been one of my more disliked teams). 63-62. Ugh is right. Two lost chances to convert the W's, Texas and now Providence And Dayton eeks it out against EIU, 66-63. Were favored by 14.5.

It’d be nice if Davidson could win one of these out of conference matchups every now and then. Instead, they save their best basketball for when the play the Bonnies.

Watched the second half of the Dayton-SMU game, SMU gutted it out, it was back and forth with lead changes over the last two minutes. Dayton needed a 3 to tie with under 10 seconds left and got one from B Watson, but then SMU dribbled the length of the floor and converted on a lay in, back rim and then in. Dayton 1-1. A very physical game, lots of defense. Other observations, Tshimanga, the 6'11" 278 lb Dayton big, seems to have a little bit more flow to his game at both ends. Until he drew his 3 foul with about 7 minutes to play in the first, Dayton was able to match SMU on the interior, defense and rebounds. The other newcomer, Tshimanga is not a newcomer, but saw limited minutes last year, was Chase Johnson a 6'9" 220 PF who transferred from Florida I believe. I had seen a little bit of him in Dayton's last game vs Eastern Illinois. Joshson appears to be a real good face up shooter. It took SMU a bit to figure that out, but they made the adjustment and kept somebody on him at all times, so that in order to shoot Johnson would have to put the ball on the floor. He, Johnson seemed a lot less comfortable with that adjustment. Crutcher added 10 its, but stopping him was obviously part of SMU's game plan.

Remember the days when Saint Louis had a good scoring night when they scored 65 points. how about tonight, they scored 65 in the 1st half, leading a weak Arkansas Pine Bluff 65-20. They are deep, big , strong and fast.

Collective sigh of relief in Richmond this afternoon. The Spiders took on Wolford and lead for most of the game, by as many as a dozen early in the second half. Not to be denied Woldrod battled back again and again and actually took at 5 point lead with under two minutes to play. At that point Golden hit a three and on the same play the Terriers fouled the Spider's Tyler Burton on a rebound clear out. Burton hit one free and the teams went back and forth over the last minute and 30 seconds. With about 20 seconds left and the Spiders up one, Jacob Gilyard hit a three ball and that was pretty much it. Final 77-72 for the Spiders. Impressed with the depth of the Spiders, Burton, Matt Grace, Gustafson and 2 other Spiders contributed in the win. Down the stretch, the last 4-5 minutes the Spiders went to Nathan Cayo in the low post to work against a size mismatch in the lane. Really good effort by both teams, it looked like the Spiders were going to run out of gas in the end when Wolford took that 5 point lead. Big test for the Spiders on Sunday went they travel to Morgantown to play West Virginia.

Back in Jerry West's day the Spiders and Mountaineers were in the Southern Conference and played annually. Others in that conference were Furman, Virginia Tech, VMI, GW, Davidson, William & Mary, and Citadel

Observations from look ins on a couple of games yesterday. Northern Kentucky was able to keep it close for a half, but then Dayton built up a double digit lead in the second half. I only watched about 15 minutes of action, but I continue to be impressed by the Florida transfer, Chase Johnson, 6-9, 220 pf, he's no Topin, but he can shoot it from distance and is starting to fit into Dayton's system. I saw the final was 66-60. Likewise I took a look at the St Louis/Central Arkansas game, Bilikens lead by 12 at the half, Cent Ark cut it to five early on in the second half, the next thing I knew SLU had pushed the lead to 16, I didn't see a final score, but the gamed looked to be pretty much in hand. What impressed me about St Louis, was they were hiring shots from the outside, Perkins we where aware of but Jimmerson also shot well from the wing and showed the ability to put the ball on the floor and beat his defender. I know you can only play 5 at a time, but when you look at the at SLU roster, they've got 4 or 5 guys at 6'7" or taller and 250+ lbs. I also noted that LaSalle beat Lincoln, but I know nothing about Lincoln. I noted a couple of games this afternoon and this evening. Richmond has Norterh Iowa coming come to town. Northern Iowa doesn't look to be as strong as in part years and this is a very good Spider team. The Spiders play West Virginia on Sunday. Also this afternoon, Rhody travels to Madison to play the Badgers. The Badgers had been ranked #4, but I saw them against a young, but talented Marquette team where the Golden Eagles, I almost said Warriors, won the game on a tip in of a missed foul shot. I think the Badgers are solid, but not #4 in the nation solid. I am going to be interested to see how Rhody fares tonight.

Ok I got this wrong, Wisconsinplyed clinical defense, up on Rhoday33-16 at the half and never really looked back. It didn’t t help that the Rhoda guards had a horrible shooting night. I would describe Rhoda as a pretty physical a10 team and they got outmuscled by the badgers. The final 73-62 was not indicative of how play went. For the balance of Teheran game. To Rhoda s credit they ve been able to schedule some pretty tough opponents. As far as Richmond/northern Iowa, I had see n a couple of no Iowa scores, but they have been playing w/o them please of the Missouri valley conference and they still were up on Richmond by two, 33-31 at the half.

Rhode Island has already played two opponents in the top 25 on game day (Wisc & Az St). All of their six games to date thus far have been against teams from conferences that I believe were rated higher than the A-10 last season: ACC Big Ten Big East P-12 AAC WCC
