The announcement coming just days before his contract expired could indicate a recent event caused his departure.
I wonder how the decision was reached. I assume Dr. Andrew Roth, Barb Questa, Board, athletic staff.............. came to a consensus.
Tim's son was to come to Bona as a frosh scholarship LAX player.
Always enjoyed talking with him at games and in his office. His door was always open and he clearly enjoyed talking in length and depth on Bona hoops.
Wish him all the best!

I doubt Dr. Andrew Roth had any input on Kennedy’s contract not being renewed, more likely Sister Margaret. Also, I wonder if his contract not being renewed is related to bonniesmbb Twitter account being suspended.

But the Bonnies aren’t doing that without expanding revenue streams to improve their facilities without expanding their Western New York fan base that isn’t happening. Yes that means games in Buffalo which I get is a sensitive subject for some Bonnies fans moving a game or two out of Reilly Center. No one is saying all Bonnies games but a few games a year in Buffalo to grow the Bonnies fan base is a good thing if it helps raise the Bonnies basketball to a national level where there taken seriously for a NCAA national championship again. Tim Kenny was to just not rocking the boat but really not improving the Bonnies revenue streams much because of really no vision of what it takes to grow Bonnies basketball brand in Western New York in my opinion. Go Bonnies! Let’s Go Buffalo Yes! Exactly. There was a vision that was sold and it never materialized. It wasn't just the very real limitations that the program faces but a lack of innovation and execution on what is possible Despite selling improvements in scheduling and expanding the regional fan base, it did not happen. The Bonnies absolutely need to expand their fan base in Western New York and the Rochester game and games in Buffalo are a part of that and they have been successful in retaining engagement to not lose fans. But there has been no innovation to expand on that and actually improve it. The big initiative was adding men's lax. Which for a few people was important but for most people the real measure of success is the basketball program.

Some of the posts regarding this subject are absolutely maddening because Tim did many things very very well. He developed and led the charge with respect to the development of the men’s lacrosse team and in the process boosted university enrollment by almost 50 students. Athletic fundraising under his leadership reached all time highs. The men’s basketball program has been on a torrid run. This summer several absolutely essential improvements to the Riley center are going to be made and Tim had a major role in terms of the athletic portion of the university’s current capital campaign. Beyond all of this he’s a darn good guy who loved the university. Talks about his failure to expand the fan base throughout western New York are ridiculous. Ditto for the scheduling. I am always chagrined to see that some who profess to live by Franciscan values take special delight in kicking someone when they’re down. Tim has my best wishes for every success in whatever comes next for him.

Watch a Bonnies game during a weeknight while students are on break an you'll see the reason why we need to expand our fanbase in Western NY, NW PA and NE OH. It will not be well-liked, but we need more than one game in Rochester every year. Blue Cross should be treated the same Villanova treats the Wachovia Center in Philly. Erie, while uncharted, would be a good target to see if we can draw fans.

So does anyone actually know why his contract was not extended or will this be the usual Bona news with no follow up or explanation?

I am always chagrined to see that some who profess to live by Franciscan values take special delight in kicking someone when they’re down. Tim has my best wishes for every success in whatever comes next for him. Your first point on his accomplishments was already pointed out. He has been given credit for the 40 male lacrosse players on campus the athletic department spends $750k a year on. No one disputes that launching the program brings in 8-10 new male athletes to the school each year that otherwise wouldn't be there. It is true that the basketball program is performing well. And I guess we will know if that is the result of the AD if the team has a losing season this year. Fundraising coincides with the University initiatives. It absolutely is true that "Tim had a major role in terms of the athletic portion of the university’s current capital campaign" and I am not sure anyone would dispute that. But it is also the job of the executive of the athletic department to be a key part of University wide campaigns, especially ones that benefit the athletic department. He was hired in large part due to money he was involved with raising at UMass. No one is saying he was incompetent at his job or not well liked. I actually think you leave out one of his better accomplishments that showed some innovation. The addition of outdoor distance track program was a very savvy move. That resulted in more funding from the NCAA and resulted in increased opportunities to the cross country athletes with very little expense to operate the outdoor program. The end result was an increase in enrollment from newly recruited runners that was a quarter of that from the mens lax team which may sound modest but it was accomplished with basically no additional money needed to be spent on the program.

Pinnum-we can dance around the revenue generated from the men's lax roster all night. But how in hell do you figure that men's lax only brings in 8-10 students. Without D1 men's lax, not a single person on that roster would be enrolled at Bona's. They would ALL be playing at some other school

I believe he meant 8-10 per year and by playing you also mean paying at another school as lax only uses 11 scholarships.

It is expected that students aren’t coming for one year and transferring out, so you have to keep seats (and roster slots) available for a majority of those kids for the subsequent years. If they are having to attract 40 new players each year there is a problem.
