Did Canisius leave the state? That wasn't the complete list. That was only the top-12 included. The link has the full list of NY teams.

Where will the Bonnies be ranked if they win the Championship of the Charleston Classic? Following would give us a general idea. Winning Charleston Classic would have Bonnies winning their first 5 games. This would be very close to a repeat of start to Bonnies 1970-71 team. The year after the Final 4 season with Bob Lanier, Bonnies were ranked #20 in the preseason (just 3 spots better than current Bonnies). After winning their first 5 games, Bona was ranked 10th in the nation. I highly doubt Bonnies would be ranked 10th, if they win Charleston Classic, but I think being ranked in mid to lower teens would be a fair guess. The first step is winning the first game of Charleston Classic. Looking forward to Bonnies playing Boise State on Thursday. www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/st-bonaventure/1971-schedule.html

Two years ago UD was unranked in the preseason. After starting 5-1 with victories over GA, VA Tech and an OT loss to #4 Kansas — the Flyers appeared at #19. Three wins later they were #12. In mid January they jumped from 13 to 7 in one week. If we get to Sunday’s championship game and play tough vs WVU or maybe Clemson we could remain ranked or at least in the top 30 of votes. But it needs to be an impressive, entertaining showing … not one of the “uglies” we’ve displayed in week one.

I'm afraid without a healthy Shoon, our real ranking puts us an awful lot closer to a Boise State than a WVU. Would be thrilled to get a first round win and to take 2 out of 3.

Surprised it’s possible to edge by two teams like Siena and Canisius and raise your ranking.

Surprised it’s possible to edge by two teams like Siena and Canisius and raise your ranking. Agreed. After that Canisius performance, I thought they should go out of the top25, not up. If we play like we did vs CC against BSU, we will get beat by 20.

If we play like we did vs CC against BSU, we will get beat by 20. Ohio St. was losing to MAAC “powerhouse” Akron all game and needed a buzzer beater to edge the Zips. They were also in a close game with Niagara. Ohio St. went from 17th to 19th. The Bonnies started slow in each game. The final result vs Siena was not close. We beat Canisius by nearly double digits. The Bonnies did not need a buzzer beater. Florida St. was ranked 20th but lost by 16 to Florida. They dropped out of the rankings, which is why we moved up a spot. Our games were nervy, sure, but that won’t be reflected in AP rankings. Win by only a basket or two to a low ranked team (ala Ohio St.) and maybe get dinged slightly. Otherwise, winning keeps you ranked barring statement wins against top teams from those ranked below us. The Canisius result hurt is in KenPom (25 to now 35) and may have a very minor implication on tournament seeding, but does not affect our rank.

Also Alabama needed every minute of the game to beat #258 South Alabama. Spreads in rivalry games go right out the window. That said, we have to play all 40 minutes like the last ten if we want to win anything in Charleston.

2-0 is more than everyone ahead of us can say, and winning is what matters. I don’t think most voters look very deeply into how close the game may have been, and instead just look at whether you win or not, particularly early in the season and also in rivalry games. From what I’ve seen over the years, it’s like that most years, including what is noted above if you’re an Ohio State just barely beating an Akron. Winning by 2 on a buzzer beater is just edging a team, winning by 28 and even 9 isn’t. Wins by 28 and 9 against decent mid majors really isn’t bad and isn’t going to hurt us, and didn’t. And please stop the “the sky is falling” approach when the team fails to meet your expectations in winning. And be reasonable, give the team some time. We are two games into the season and have yet to be at full strength.
