Mason wins by half a dozen, now 7-1 at home. Oduro with 31. Tight game though St. J had 17 TOs and Mason only 4. Because St. J shot 50% treys.

Close game all the way. GM's biggest lead till end was 5. Oduro on 31 mins (sat early with 2 fouls) had 30 pts on 55% shooting. 3 assists and 0 TOs.
He is suffering tendinitis in his left knee which had an elastic support on it. Special player but was limping on it slightly.
Glad he had a special game I like seeing him play against another team.
Mason had only 4 TOS. They average 12.6.
Sure hope their 5-22 treys (23%) doesn't return to the mean WED night.
Hope we can make them 7-2 in their house.

Mason's big Josh Oduro has taken great leaps forward in his third year in Fairfax.
He's increased his scoring output from 10 PPG as a sophomore to nearly 18 PPG as a junior. It also looks like he's more inclined to shoot from deep as he's attempted 33 3's through 15 games while connecting on 33%. In his first two seasons, he only attempted 23 3PT FGs.
Oduro played well in limited minutes last year against Bona connecting 4/5 shots from the field while grabbing five boards. Don't really remember the game last season, but he was not in foul trouble and yet played only 19 minutes.
SBU has obviously done very well against Mason during their time in A10 play, BUT Kim English is not Dave Paulsen.
This Mason team could easily be 13-3 as four of their losses are by four points or less.
Mason has played extremely well since their five-game losing streak in December. If we play like we did against Duquesne, we won't be leaving the DMV area with a victory.

Chris - you make it sound like we played lousy at Duquesne. We didn’t, unless your expectations are set too high. We won a road league game against a decent team by 8, in which we fought off several stretches where the opponent started a run at our consistent near- or over-double digit lead. You were expecting at 20 point win, maybe? That’s not realistic, IMO. So if we play as we did against the Dukes by owning the paint and getting good production throughout the line-up, we’re going to be in it against Mason and I like our chances of winning tight games, even on the road. That’s one of the benefits of an experienced team - knowing how to successfully close out tight games, because they’ve done it many times. That’s certainly no guarantee, but it does provide an advantage against a team that clearly does not have the depth of talent and experience we have, even when they do have the home court advantage.

G Mason at 9-7 and 2-1 will be a tough road win.
This will be their 3rd game in 5 days and MAY affect the play of ODURO who is suffering from tendinitis in his left knee. Last night he wore an elastic support and showed some limping toward the end of the game. It did not stop him putting up 30 points shooting 55%. He is the conference's #3 scorer (17.7 ppg) but does far more than put up points.
They are #3 in TREYS made (9.6) to our #11 (6.1). This is a differential we see in most of our games due to our struggles hitting from beyond the arc.
Besides the scoring of ODURO and SCHWARTZ (16ppg) last night JOHNSON was very effective aggressively attacking the rim.
Their A/TO ratio is a weak area but last night they turned it over only 4 times.
Will we see the team that beat Dayton by 1 or lost to GW by 1 the game before?

Hi Ceharv, Didn't mean to make it sound like Bona played poorly. I just believe they did not play a great game against a Dukes team that could lose 20 games. Duquesne is 224 in KenPom and 234 in NET while Mason is 120 in KenPom/ 106 in NET. While I will take a road A10 win any day of the week, I just believe Mason is much better than Duquesne, so we will likely need to play like we did against VCU to beat them. An effort like we had against La Salle, Dayton (obviously) or Duquesne likely results in a loss.

SBU has obviously done very well against Mason during their time in A10 play, BUT Kim English is not Dave Paulsen. It is way too early to be calling Kim English a better coach than Paulsen. English 9-7 record is only 2 games over 500, while Paulsen finished last year 4 games over 500 with a 13-9 record. I was surprised with George Mason firing Dave Paulsen. After taking over a team with a 9-22 record, Paulsen led George Mason to 5 winning seasons out of 7. Paulsen was fired after leading George Mason to a conference record of 8-6, which was tied for 4th in the A-10. www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/george-mason/www.warrennolan.com/basketball/2021/conference/Atlantic-10

Kim English is in his 1st year as head coach at George Mason. English was an assistant coach at Tennessee prior to George Mason. English has several new players with center Josh Oduro being the only returning starter for George Mason. -- 6’9” Josh Oduro is the team’s leading scorer and is 3rd leading scorer in A-10 at 17.7 ppg. Chris Moses is right with "Mason's big Josh Oduro has taken great leaps forward in his third year in Fairfax." All of his stats have improved from last year, especially scoring where he averaged just 10 ppg last year. Josh is a physical 6’9” 235 pound center, whose game is down low in the post. Oduro shoots a very impressive 57.1% from the field, which is 9th in the A-10. George Mason’s other double digit scorers are all transfers. -- 6’7” 238 pound D’shawn Schwartz avg. 15.5 ppg, which is 9th in A10. — Transfer from Colorado was a 3 year starter at PAC 10 school. 4 star recruit and Rivals # 70 recruit. -- 6’4” Devon Cooper avg, 12.1 ppg - transfer from Moorhead St. was a 3 year starter (red shirt junior year, because of injury). A star of team his senior year averaging 12.5 ppg. -- 6’7” Davonte Gaines avg. 10.8 ppg . He is currently the 2nd leading rebounder in the A-10 averaging 8.2 rpg. He is making 48.9% of his 3s, which is 3rd in the A-10. A transfer from Tennessee. -- 6’1” Xavier Johnson is the starting PG. He was a George Mason reserve last year averaging 3.3 ppg. This year he is 5th in scoring averaging 6.2 ppg. George Mason’s stats are very similar to Bonnies. They average 71.4 ppg, Bona averages 70.3. George Mason gives up 66.1 ppg and Bona 67.1. Field goal shooting is also very similar on both offense and defense. The one big difference is George Mason is a significantly better 3 point shooting team making 35.4% of their 3s compared to Bona making 31.8%. Another similarity is George Mason also has a limited production from their bench. Their top 2 scoring reserves are Jamal Hartwell who averages just 4.6 ppg. and Ronald Polite at 4.2. In comparison Karim averages 4.1 ppg and Quadry 3.1 ppg. A concern is George Mason's leading scorers 6'9" Oduro and 6'7" Schwartz are both more physical and heavier than Osun. Hopefully Osun can stay out of foul trouble. George Mason has a solid record of 7-1 at home. This is going to be a challenging game with it being on the road. gomason.com/sports/mens-basketball/rosterwww.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/george-mason/2022.htmlatlantic10.com/stats.aspx?path=mbball&year=2021

With Kyle scoring being down we will need others to pick up the slack. It is time for Osun to pick up his game. I know GM is physical but we can’t have our center passing the ball from the top of the key. He needs to assert himself offensively and defensively. If he plays a passive game they will kill us inside. Got to use his length.

Y ou want him to pick up his game??

If I recall correctly, Bonas was in the running for English before he signed with Missouri.
