Saw this in the notes for today's game = Kyle Lofton surpassed Glenn Hagan, '78, for fourth in Bonnies career assists with his five helpers Tuesday at Dayton, giving him 491 total. He is just three points away from tying Hagan for 20th in career scoring (1,396 points).
Of course Hagan set his marks in three seasons - Kyle I think has slightly more games in - and for those who did not see him play, Glenn as a magician with the ball. I always thought he got drafted by the wrong NBA team (Phillie already had their small point guard in place). But he was fun to watch!

Yea, but did you see Isaiah Carson and Terron Diggs run an offense?

Lofton reminded me of Hagan from day 1 The high dribble, the grin and manner on the court (though Glenn was flashier), the scoop and finger roll on layups. I got to see quite a bit of Glenn (and Waterman and other asst Bonnies) in his Zenith days. Both great players and Bonnies!!! Big shoes to fill for Rumpel or Saizonou or whoever else fills the PG role next

I watched the Rochester Zeniths one night at the Dome Arena after I graduated from Bonas still in '83 or so...Zeniths are down 3 for one last shot and I said to my Dad: "Watch this..." Sure enough, Hagan gets the ball in the corner with time running out...SWISH!! Tie game. They ended up losing in OT, but just watching the buzzer beater which he was famous for at Bonas, especially in the winning NIT tournament run, was special and a moment I will never forget...Also won't forget being able to go to the Celtics locker room when he was one of the last cuts in an intersquad scrimmage game at the Rochester War Memorial and interviewing Glenn after the game for the Bona Venture. It was sad because his performance in the scrimmage sealed his fate as a final cut but it was the thrill of a lifetime sitting right next to Kevin McHale and a few other Celtics in the Boston lockerroom...

In my opinion Lofton is half the player Hagan was...

Different type point guards. Hagen was only 6’1” and about 170. He was a gifted ball handler and flashier. Didn’t have three point line range. Good at penetrating. Had Bona HOF forwards in Hollis and Sanders as well as Rozysko. Gambled more on steals. Don’t underestimate Lofton. He’s taller and stronger, a team leader and clutch. Also a better defender. Bonas is fortunate to have a stable of excellent point guards.

He was my favorite player on NIT champs and NCAA team the year after. That being said Kyle Lofton can definitely hold his own in any comparison. One doesn't need to be "better" they were and are great players. We are lucky that both decided to come to SBU!

I too got to see Glen in the final pre-season game at Springfield Civic Center...we chatted before the game about Bonas and the Celts I was '77 and GH was '78 and he had already gotten word that he was to be cut after the game.
When he did get in the game at mop up time he looked like he was auditioning for the Globetrotters, fancy dribbling, no look & behind the back passes and all the while flashing that great smile.
We met up again in the HOF room after a game in Nov of 2014 at SBU...still had that grin working!

Kyle is a good player, but Hagan was special. He showed up in the clutch and had a style that was his own. Hagan, Sanders and Hollis. What a trio! Felt lucky that I was able to experience that time in the 70's!

Shortly after getting cut by the Celtics, Coach Satalin let me know himself the news that Glenn had a "10 day contract" with the Detroit Pistons. It didn't last long, but Glenn flirted with playing in the NBA for a few years before just having fun playing for the Zeniths...He was a heluva player and a fun guy to be around...I met him my freshman year at Bonas mentoring one of the freshmen basketball players who was a floor mate that year...

Kyle undoubtedly has some of that Hagen swag, but the comparisons end as soon as the talk turns to shooting the ball. Those 70s teams would have gone even further with a 3 pt line

Those 70s teams would have gone even further with a 3 pt line The comparisons end when shooting the ball? Lofton is a better shooter than Hagan was. He has been our leader for one of the most successful periods of SBU basketball. I have seen both play and if I needed to pick one it would be Lofton. Physically tougher, definitely not flashier, but in my opinion better, I think he suffers from the good old days memories on here. The mid 70's Bonnies were very good, but these Bonnies are better. We need to appreciate what we have.
