Fair point on Matthews, but he signed in 2007, so my point remains.

Fair point on Matthews, but he signed in 2007, so my point remains. I realized that, but I couldn't think of anyone else from a positive standpoint. Maybe when I have time I will go through the rosters...

Has Schmidt had a guy transfer down that was good? Well I think times have changed A LOT in very recent years with guys eligible immediately and getting an extra covid year. I dont think we should dismiss the strategy off-hand just because it wasn't successful before these major, major changes to college basketball key contributors from all 4 of the semi-finalists VCU - Johns, Zeb Jackson (Michigan) St. Louis - Okoro & Pickett (Oregon / Missou) Dayton - Camara (Georgia) Fordham - Moore (Georgia Tech) You can't ignore that. Those are significant reasons why they are still playing and we aren't. That strategy should be considered IMO

We haven’t landed any impact players moving down in conference since Chris Mathews. Things have been different for a while.

Is there a drop dead date on declaring for the portal, or is it a complete free-for-all?

No inside info, but I’ll take the under with just Amadasun leaving. He’ll have to sit a year somewhere, but all I ever saw on the bench was his eyes shooting daggers at Schmidt when coach patrolled the sideline.

I'll take the over - thinking 4 or more will leave ... That has become the College basketball norm these days. No names - just numbers ...

Rumpel Hill Max Anouar and/or Evans Hopefully not Farrell Once again folks: It appears that anyone who has transferred already now has to sit out a year if transfers again. So Hill and Max unlikely, ditto on Chad, Luc, Flowers, Banks.

Far more likely to lose players you hate to lose (but can transfer without sitting) --i.e. Farell and Evans and Rumpel--than guys you wouldn't mind leaving but won't because have to sit out. Although have to see how generous NCAA will be with "waivers" on having to sit.

Tre Mitchell transferred from both UMass and Texas and is playing this year. Matt Cross from UMass transferred from Miami and Louisville and played this year. If Schmidt wants to get rid of them and/or they want to leave, we will find a way, even though the NCAA is trying to limit giving out waivers.

Grad transfers are also a thing. So if a player graduates they can transfer without a waiver if they haven't transferred before. Bona20 points out waivers are given out to players like open container tickets in Allegany on a Saturday night. I feel trying to explain college basketball in the year 2023 on this board, would be kind of like trying to explain electricity in the middle ages.

From NCAA site:
Q12: Does a student-athlete who intends to use their remaining athletics eligibility after graduation at another school need to provide notification of transfer during the appropriate transfer window for their sport?
A12: No. A student-athlete who plans to enroll as a postgraduate at another school during the next term or academic year may request to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal at any time.
Q13: What if the student-athlete transferred previously from another four-year school as an undergraduate student?
A13: Generally, a student-athlete who has previously transferred from another four-year school would not be able to use the one-time exception as a postgraduate transfer. However, a waiver process exists for postgraduate students with a previous transfer history.
