Speaking of Tarique Foster, any chance we go back after the young man for the last scholarship?
De-committed to VCU, obviously an A10 talent, with connections to our new assistant and 4 years eligibility, why not?

I like the idea of using the last scholarship here since Pride, Adams-Woods, Banks, and Flowers are all done after this year... bringing in a quality freshman or underclassman makes too much sense.

Interview with Coach Valentine. Coach noted to in the interview that he forgot to mention the young man he believes to be a stud, Yang Farrell, trying to get our history and everything about the pteranodon right on his first try. Well, he certainly got the recruiting part right.
So excited about what this young coach brings to the program, which is best reflected in his desire to be a difference maker in the lives, both on and off the court, of the players he works with.

I am normally able to fight through the various misspellings and autofills/autocorrects here, but I'll be damned if I can figure out what the hell "pteranodon" means.

Zorro thanks for the nudge, I looked at my post and when I saw ""pteranodon" I must have been thinking of a long extinct dinosaur. Must be the medication I'm on.

Coach Valentine seems like a very nice young man. He understands the situation at SBU. Comes in because he can recruit so, they say
Coach Curran just happens to exit the program even thou he is a key piece to the puzzle.
Is there something behind the current that we just don't know?

From Mustang Press, “Valentine follows dream to D-1” Article discusses how it was a dream of Dana Valentine to become a D-1 level basketball coach.
It is amazing how Dana suddenly decides to follow his dream and quit his government job. Without any basketball experience, played just football in high school and college. Dana volunteers at Notre Dame Prep’s basketball program. Soon afterwards is hired at Putnam as a coach. 3 years he coaches at Putnam’s lowest level of Prep, Elite and Varsity. After 3 years as Varsity coach is moved to as an assistant of Prep team. After just 2 years as assistant coach of Prep team, Dana is hired by Bona.
A statement I’ve heard repeatedly about Dana Valentine is stated by coach Espinosa. “He didn’t just coach these guys for a year or two, He Built Relationships With Them. He was phenomenal at it.”

Check out the article on Thompson as well. Sounds like a kid with a great work ethic and attitude in that he reclassified so he didn’t become complacent at PSA and so he’d be challenged at Bonas.

Today’s (6/9) OTH online has an article on Valentine. This guy is truly into the history of the Prograam and Bonas in general and doesn’t sound like an outsider, and is excited to be here and get to work on moving the program ahead. Gotta love someone who describes being at Bonas as a “dream come true.” Who knows what the future will bring but for now I don’t think he’s viewing Bonas as a just stepping stone to someplace else.

Eventually the head coach spot will open up. Can see MS retiring in the next few years.

It’s what Jim O’B said as well, and any good recruiter would do that. He will be here for 2 to 3 years, will prove his chops at the college game and big boys will call with the payola, and he will leave. It is not his fault, he needs to to get where he wants to go, just the nature of the game. I think it is good as we need more successful assistants so that we have a pool of potential HC candidates. Hopefully one of them ends up being the next Mark Schmidt, a guy who could have moved on and stayed. Love that guy, don’tlways agree with his coaching moves, but love that he stayed at a time when most coaches would have run somewhere bigger after his success.
