SBU is in good shape as it stands right now with a NET of 67. Need to probably get into the 50s to be safe, but in good position right now nonetheless.

A travesty to reward mediocre P6 teams. Conference games, almost by definition, are against teams with like budgets, resources, and recruiting bases. A team’s record in those games is probably the true test for post season worth. Clemson fans would rather watch spring practice than see JGIII score 12 pts on an efficient 3-13 from 3 against a 7th or 8th place Big East squad. The NIT require(d/s) schools to sell a certain number of seats in order to host. It makes it difficult to impossible for mid majors to make any money from an NIT appearance. So now let’s pare back the number of smaller institutions in the field and send them on the road. Hell, let’s send the little school from WNY to Colorado. What? Send them to Oklahoma, then! C’mon, really? Then send them to UVa to face Bennett’s meat grinder system. Again?? And they sold 8,000 seats in The Garden?! Well let’s move out of MSG and change the rules. That thinking is why I will never forgive Emmett for abdicating the NCAA’s throne and AD’s like OU’s Castiglione for shunning worthy mid-majors just to line the pockets and save face for their bloated colleagues.

It’s a shame as is the current state of college athletics. It will only get worse for the mid majors. That’s why this year is so important for the Bonnies.

Anyone watching the Dayton game tonight, Lunardi gave us some love and so did the half time show.
If we go on a long run, at least we are on the radar?

Anyone watching the Dayton game tonight, Lunardi gave us some love and so did the half time show. If we go on a long run, at least we are on the radar? Forget the NIT. The best thing Lunardi said tonight is that the A-10 is clearly the 8th ranked conference in the NET and in the past 30 years, only one time has the 8th ranked conference not received an At-Large bid. The A-10 is getting an At-Large. So who's it gonna be? Personally I am rooting for VCU tonight. First, it's good for the league. Secondly, our road win at VCU magically becomes a Quad 1, which we desperately need to be in the At-Large discussion. We also need to win tomorrow.

Bub, how can we rely on what’s happened in the past as a way to predict this season’s At Large bids? I realize Lunardi has a good track record but the NCAA selection committee and the P6 are gaining more and more and more power. The vice is tightening on mid-majors at every turn.
Lunardi and everyone else did have the Bonnies getting an At Large bid in 2016 when they got snubbed. It happens each year.
Sure I hope you’re right and the A10 gets multiple bids but I would not count on any favors from the committee. The A10’s best hope (maybe only hope) is for anyone but Dayton to win the A10 tourney. VCU and Richmond each only have one Q1 win and still trail SBU in the net.
VCU and Richmond needs more Q1 wins. Richmond has a better chance if it stays on top of the A10 standings. As the announcers said during last night’s ESPN2 broadcast: “The A10 is a good league but it doesn’t have a lot of opportunities remaining for Q1 wins”.

It’s hard to get too excited about the NIT, but then I think back and remember the Iron 5 run a couple years ago and how much fun it was watching us go to Oklahoma, Colorado and Virginia and come away with wins. I can still visualize OO taking three giant steps to get across the court then rising up and slapping the layup attempt into the cheap seats to seal the W against Virginia. Even if we don’t win the NIT, the “bonus” games could be fun fun and the extra practices and experience would be good for the guys returning for next year.

A10 can get two teams in obviously, and maybe even three if they had all the luck in the world. VCU and Bona do not have the resume for the NCAAs at large, but have a good case for the NIT.
If Dayton finishes the year strong and loses their semifinal game against the 4/5 seed, they would be in the NCAAs without a doubt. Richmond needs to basically win out or drop one game max in the regular season and then make it to the finals. If they do that, they would be very close to being in the mix. Then another team wins the conference championship gets you three bids.
But it doesn't take nearly as much work to get to just one bid, but I doubt Dayton wins the whole thing in Brooklyn, so I think two bids is the likely outcome.

This year Indy is Host City. For Bonnies to get into NIT, we're likely looking at no worse than 12-6 regular season and an A10 tourney finals appearance. As they say, "in position, to be in position". Go Bonas!
