I’ve spoken with Paul Hoffman a few times. — Digger Phelps got his nickname during high school, while he worked at a funeral home and in the cemetery. — Hurt his knee, which bothered him for the rest of his life during basketball practice. It was a very hot day and they opened up the doors. He crashed into the open door and hurt his knee. — Decided to come to Bona after he saw Bob Lanier on his visit. Believed with Lanier, Bona would win national championship. Matt Gantt had same reply when I asked him why he chose Bona. — Said he was hired at Belmont Central, more for his basketball skills than his knowledge of social studies. They wanted him to coach basketball. - For many years had season tickets. Sat in first row in the reds, behind the Bona bench. Good time to watch Paul Hoffman in Unfinshed Dreams. www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrzaE_yqr4s

My memory of Hoffman is how tough he was. Driving the lane shoulder down with his glasses held on by a strap. Hoffman and his team mates against Jacksonville was a perfect example of how tough he was!

Hoffman was one my teachers during my junior and senior years. Absolutely loved telling stories. He's the number one reason I became a Bonnies fan. He will be missed.
