Point of local interest: Does anyone know Dan Piccioli? He is an Olean resident who has $40,525 after day one of the main event of the world series of poker. That's nowhere near the leaders, but pretty good - moving up $30,000 in day one. The players who lead after day one often drop out by day three anyway, and never win because they are too reckless. BTW, some 1,800 remain after over 3,000 have been eliminated.

Yes, I know Danny very well. Grew up with him. He now works for Cattaraugus County Social Services, and has played in the big World Series event a few times before. He sat next to Gabe Kapler of Welcome Back Kotter fame one year.
He is an incredible poker player, and runs an annual event in Olean in February that garners some 400 players over 2 days. that many Bandwagon regulare participate in.
In fact, he is such an accomplished poker player in local circles, that one of the big money VIP's of Olean (ie; Magnano, Dwailebee, etc) usually sponsor him in the World Series event in Vegas. Not a bad investment on their part, as Danny has a remarkable photographic memory and analytical mind. He can recall any hand he has played, and during a hand can figure odds and tell you what cards are remaining in the deck at any time.

Fox I think you mean Gabe Kaplan...Kapler was the reserve outfielder for the 2004 World Series Champion Boston Red Sox.

Next thing you know Gabe Kapler won't be inducted in the Baseball HOF because of gambling problems. You can tell Fox is a Yankee fan picking on our beloved, but pitching short, Bosox!

Danny is still alive as of today with $52,800 in chips. There are currently 567 players remaining, and they pay the Top 560, so Danny is in very good shape to earn at least $12,500 (500 thru 560 place).
Current leader has $464,000, low is $3,200, average is $98,950.
And it was Gabe Kaplan - sorry. So I'll take "Welcome Back Kotter" for $200 Alex........

It looks like Danny is out. I just checked on him, and I think he was knocked out at 537, winning $12,500. Those results are not official, however.
