I know they did back when I was there, but I think after I graduated, they lost their status and became a hockey "club." It's a pity, because Bonaventure could use a great hockey team.

I agree with you on this one Ron! It seems like a no-brainer to me. I know there are costs involved, but there are also many benefits which I think significantly outway the costs.

Just where the school is located means that this should be a hockey hotbed. And it's a great way to lure students to the school if the basketball program is going to continue in its weakened state for awhile.

Not only that, but Pat LaFontaine attended Bonaventure.
(That's a way private joke that nobody on this board will get)

Indeed we do. We're still club status but still play against decent comp. Two years ago we went to the finals and lost to Cornell after beating SUNY Cortland in the semis. This year we dropped 4-2 in the opening round to Colgate. Should have a decent bunch coming back next year that can really compete with any team at the club level.
Go Bonas.

what other schools do they play? I would have thought Cortland and/or Cornell would have collegiate hockey...or do they have both collegiate and club teams?

Cornell and Colgate have Division 1 hockey. Bonabum must be referring to playing a club level team from those schools.

There is a club league, it is highly competitive. It's called the ACHA. They have 3 divisions of competition. I don't think we're in this, but we should definitely look at it.

If there is an alumni game then Dem-Bonnies, Henry Higgins & I will have to lace them up.......
sure we could recruit some of the best Bonnies of all time....the Orchard Park line/gang, ClayBoyd, Randy (from da Bronx) C., Dave O'D, etc., etc..
If there was a no check rule in the game.... ...then the old timers would be at a disadvantage for sure!

That's Bo Bar-Drill .... remember trying to knock his face mask off in warm ups... with slappers from the top of the face off circle?
I had no beef with those guys....from the other board and have to admit a small amount of the subject matter is entertaining. Had a problem with the extreme negative posters....who I felt were posting stuff that they wouldn't say to a group or at a gathering.....if so it would probably have brought some sort of consquence.
If we had that type of Forum 1-2 years after we graduated...it would have been just as nasty, obnoxious to everyone else but us........

I would absolutely love it if St. Bonaventure got a hockey team, It would be expensive and if we got one we'd have to boost our enrollment to about 3000 but it would be great. I also think that if we got a team and an arena we should get an intercollegiate ice curling team. Dead serious too it would be something we could brag about and have a little niche.
