Don't blame him - guess he got tired of playing his "HOME" games on a high school field 20 miles away. In contrast, look at what Binghamton is doing: VESTAL -- With less than two months remaining before the start of the 2007-08 academic year, construction continues to progress on the Bearcats Sports Complex, a $3.6 million project which will be the new home for men's and women's soccer and lacrosse teams. The 116-day project is taking place to the right of the Binghamton Events Center. The Bearcat Sports Complex includes a pair of synthetic turf field, one for games and one designed for practices. Both field will be 120x75 in length. The seating capacity at the playing field will will 2,534 while the practice field will have seating for 1,000. Both field will have lighting designed for night games and practices. The game field will have a press box and there will be a concession building with restrooms between the two fields. In addition to increasing the university's likelihood of hosting collegiate conference championships, the new fields will give Binghamton University other opportunities. The lights will allow for night games, which will help expand the Bearcats' fan base. The fields could also be used for youth championships or leased by local athletic groups when not in use by the university. www.bubearcats.com/sports/outdoorfacility.html

Hooray for the SUNYs. New York taxpayer dollars hard at work to improve improve accessibility to higher education for all classes of society. If they are afraid to place the word "SUNY" in front of their name now (University of Albany, University of Binghamton, etc.), then maybe its time to reassess the amount of money they are getting from New York State taxpayers to uderwrite the costs of their athletic programs.

"If they are afraid too put SUNY in front of their names?"
That may be one of hte most idiotic things I have ever heard.
All of them still have SUNY in front of their names, but some are considered 'University Centers' (UB, Binghampton, Stony Brook, Albany), and others 'Colleges' (Fredonia, Geneseo, Brockport, Cortland, etc.) Hence the 'University at Buffalo', and SUNY-College at Geneseo.
And anyone who has seen the facilities at Geneseo or Fredonia knows SBU is way behind these Division III schools.
Any by the way - nice new science building/addition going up on SBU's campus thanks to a 'gift' from an alum. I think part of my federal taxes are in that gift?
What a stupid post by 'oldschool'

What a stupid post by 'oldschool' I don't see what's so stupid about oldschool's post. Actually, I totally agree with him. These SUNY schools reap all the benefits of taxpayer dollars for Divison 1 Athletic purposes? I don't think that's fair. It's all right to have one--maybe two--flagship schools for athletics in NYS, but to keep pouring this much money into all of these SUNY schools is ludicrous.

I'm with oldschool also, there isn't anything wrong with his post. Yes SBU benefitted from a NASA grant but SUNY schools get virtually everything from the State Tax payers. About $30K of each students tuition is subsidized by the state as well as almost all building projects. Spending my hard earned money on athletic buildings for SUNY Albany and Binghamton gets me angry. SBU is at a disadvantage to every SUNY school because SBU cannot tax people New York State can. Frankly I think your post SBU83 was pretty damn stupid. Comparing a $9 million dollar science center to a $10 Billion subsidized education program is ridiculous.

Well I was in the Bon ton today and I don't know why ,but they are selling a raft of U. B. shirts... I think the science building on sbu's campus is courtesty of a federal earmark from a congressman Walsh who is a sbu grad... the Nasa grant is for another program I think. also Congressman Kuhl just got another grant for sbu . I think that one is to equip the new science building Sbu has its hand out and pockets filled with quite a bit of non tuition funded federal money : rotc, pell grants, subsidized student loans . I think the public suny schools do a great jpb for the whole state and no one should be jealous . If any bona kid can meet the admissions standards he can go there. I kind of like the old fashioned dirt fields .Johnny Unitas used them.

Heck, Kathy Young just gave away a 'gift' of our taxpayer money to the tune of $100,000 to the Lucille Ball - Desi Arnez Museum in Jamestown. How about that one!

I also heard that they are losing a key player, easily the best player they've had and 3-4 other girls as well. It doesn't look to promising for the future of the lacrosse program right now. Hopefully they can find a quality coach and get some good recruits in.

If you want lacrosse to succeed, add a men's program and build a nice new turf field on campus.

Sad to see him go he seemed to be a good coach. I would love to add a mens team and a field to Bona's I think we could really be competitive with some of the national powers with a little dedication to the sport.
Hopefully the recent updates to campus will help draw more students so that St. Bonaventure can continue to grow. After upgrades to a few of the dorms, plassman, and the reily center, I think that a turf field would be an excellent addition to the campus.

Seems like everyone has seen this coming. With the terrible facilities why wouldn't a coach move down the highway a bit to a school that has more funding. Coaches at Bona's have to scrape and beg with people to make their budgets even stretch as far as they do.
It is just sad that one of the sports at Bonnies that has been pretty successful is feeling the pain because they have not been supported the way that they should have been.
If we could even halfway mirror the project that Binghamton is doing right now it would be a huge improvement. Who knows maybe the coach leaving will open up some eyes and make people realize that another athletic field is more of a need than they once thought.
