Any reports on the U.B. scrimmage this weekend? The Bulls should be decent this year... maybe we can get an idea where we stand, at least at this point in time.

It would be nice to know how things went. Is AJ the real deal as a Frosh? Can we hold our own down low?
Hope springs eternal !

Bonnies lost, 71-68. Heard that Michael Lee looked awesome, Diggs and Hawkins looked good, and the rest, well, UGH !

On the fashion front, my buddy Tyler looked resplendent on the bench in his Bona warm-ups and his 2 or 3 carat diamond stud earrings.
If they're real, they put Terrell Owen's earrings to shame !!

Was it played like a real game? Where there real referees there? Really disappointed we don't get more pre-season looks.

Yes, a real game with real Div. 1 refs. That was an NCAA requirement. Heard that Witherspoon was in mid-season form berating some of the calls !
Heard that Anthony basically stood there with his arms folded, observing the action, while Jayson and the other assistants did all the coaching and yelling and screaming.
He must be pacing himself.

ripreilly755....Thanks for your report. Was this a closed scrimmage? Were you there or did you get the information from a Bona staff member?

Checked with a couple of very reliable "sources" (yes, I do hate to use that over-used phrase--but, I'm not sure how else to relay the message, when sworn to some degree of secrecy...), and got a very different result. We pounded UB in the A.M., by a reported 18 points, and in the P.M. we "won" by a close margin. (this in 30-38 min. full court scrimmages) Pretty decent report on most of the guys we need to produce... Hawkins especially. These guys didn't bother to mention what Peaches was wearing, or anything like that.

does anyone have access to the UB-message board? It would be interesting to see what was posted there.
UB has 3-pretty big guys from the same German club, the one big guy from Morocco is a pre-season All-MAAC player.
is this practice game a good measuring stick for the progress of the team? sounds like we did ok against them.
would be nice to get more details!

Her's a link to a UB posting board that has a topic about the scrimmage. Not much more info than has already been posted here. The one quote about the Bonnies by one poster was "Bona looked terrible" www.ubfan.com/install/modules.php?name=Forums

Perhaps the poster on the UB board was commenting on the Lady Bonnies, who scrimmaged the UB women Saturday. I don't know what scrimmage he was watching, but it certainly was not Sunday's. Bona - led by Mike Lee underneath and on the glass, improved half-court play from Carson, and Ahmad being Ahmad - ran away with the a.m. scrimmage. Wasn't even close. The afternoon was; UB won by two in OT after a pair of Lottin free throws sent the teams to their seventh "period" of the day. I'd say Lee and Carson had to be the two biggest surprises of the day. Michael played tough interior defense, skyed for boards, and altered and blocked shots with the chip on his shoulder Coach Slo referenced during his show. Isiah actually showed signs of being a point guard. Depite Isiah's struggles in the open floor, Ahmad and Paul, among others, were beneficiaries of some jaw-dropping passes from Carson in the half-court set. Also of note: 1) These closed scrimmages are much better tools for teams to identify their strengths and weaknesses than an exhibition game. Take whatever happens Friday with a grain of salt, because it is in no way as indicative of where we are as a team as any closed, monitored session against any D-1 team, let alone 70+ minutes of ball against a postseason club from a year ago. 2) While Terron Diggs looked decent, he is not nearly as quick as Marques Green, nor is he half the scoring threat. 3) A.J. Hawkins, mature and athletic beyond his years, is going to be a star. Go Bona's!
