If Bona wins on Wed. we get to have revenge on Dayton for their "we don't want to play at Bonaventure stance after the news of the scandal broke because its too dangerous." It would be great if we could end their chance of a NCAA bid.

Except it didn't actually happen like that... and Dayton's a lock either way.
They have a better resume than LSU. They're underseeded by everyone now as a 10 (which is ridiculous).
Furthermore, with the exception of rooting for our team always, we should hope as many A-10 teams as possible get bids and root for them to go deep in the tournament.
More bids = more respect for the league, and that respect can help us down the road.

I could really care less about how well Dayton does.

I'm with you jpshmack. I think it always makes sense to root for the A-10 to get as many tourney bids as possible(and of course do as well in the tourney as possible)....

Not just more respect for the league, but larger payouts to SBU via tournament revenue sharing.

I root for every other A10 team except Dayton and St. Joes. Dayton fans are classless and I have no desire for them to succeed. Sorry

I think Dayton fans have class, they're just ignorant blind homers (like most fans). If you think fans of other A-10 teams are annoying, live in SEC country for a while. Dear god in heaven, these people are insane.

The stronger the A10 appears, the stronger SBU will be seen. We did beat some of these A10 teams, and this is important when it comes to getting into tournaments. Beating weak teams doesn't do much for your chances. As fans of SBU, logically we should be rooting for all A10 teams to do well - except when they're playing us.
Strong conferences recruit better players and the list goes on when it comes to the advantages of A10 teams beating others. Letting classless fans get in the way of common sense, is ... well, senseless.

Dayton fans had a pep rally at the Holiday Inn near the Spectrum one year the A-10's were held there. Even though the Bonnies were Dayton's next opponent, some Dayton fans invited me to the pep rally. I was wearing a Bonas hat. I politely declined. The next year, at the same hotel, the same fans came to me to ask if I knew if there was a Catholic Church in the area. I showed them the statue in the distance of Stella Maris Catholic Church. Well, I joined them for Mass. They said they'd give me directions to the chapel at UD because they were going to host the the A-10's the next year. They aren't bad people, just fans.

I will most definitely root for teams like UD in OOC and once they hit the NCAA, but in conference I can't get over the fact that I can't stand them. I am not sure what it is, but I have a definite dislike for everyone wearing a UD shirt or cheering for their team. It is somewhat the same way I feel about St. Joes, only I definitely know why I hate them.

Yeah, the problem is that most of us judge other teams' fan bases on what we read on other message boards. I know some of you read the A10 board, for example, and the Dayton posters make you want to see the Flyers get blown out every game. St. Louis posters, although quiet on the A10 board this year, are in the same category. But these posters represent a miniscule proportion of these teams' fans. Most "normal" fans don't post at all (not sure what that says about us ;D). I try to force myself to remember this when I watch these teams play OOC.

I don't root for Dayton and Joes for the same reason I don't root for the Red Sox when the Yanks are eliminated.

IMO, there's a difference. First, the Yanks and Sox are about as hated rivals as one could dream up. Second, the Red Sox winning after the Yankees are eliminated provides no future benefits to the Yankees. Other A10 teams winning out of conference, making the tournament, and winning games in the tournament benefit the conference as a whole and by extension each of its members. Narrowly speaking, making the tournament and winning games there means more NCAA money for everyone. More broadly, the better the league is viewed, the better (if perhaps only marginally) for Bona the next time it is on the bubble.
