I would like to add my two cents here about this topic. Preferbly I want Coach Schmidt to go after four-year players. This builds team chemistry rather than the constant turn over on the roster. Obviously, there are always exceptions. It seems that many of the two-year players we recruit come with baggage.
Coach Schmidt has done a remarkable job of building up the roster. The talent on our team now is much better than any of Sol's teams. We still need to improve but I am more optimistic than negative.
With recruiting I have always hated to hear how difficult it is to bring kids to Bonas. We live in the middle of nowhere, blah, blah, blah!!!!!!!!!!!! We need to recruit kids who want to be at Bonas and who would fit in. Bonas isn't everyones' cup of tea. Why even waste our time on bringing in kids who can't make the adjustment to small city living? Yes, we have had luck bringing inner city kids here to Bonnies. Our gloried past and present show we can do that.
Finally, is it official that House has a scholarship in hand? Did I miss the official announcement. If they haven't offered Jake a scholarship why not?

What scares kids away from Bonas more than the cold winter or rural area etccc...is simply losing. Kids will go anywhere if they can get playing time in a winning program. So in order to attract the quality 4 yr players we needed to jump from 6 wins towards 15 wins - and that was done...in large part to Jon Hall, Chris Matthews Grease Thomas DLancy Carter - none of them 4 yr players. Lets get to 18-20 win seasons and the movement away from jucos/transfers will occur naturally because 4 yr players will be knocking on our door - its already begun with a quality player like Kelvin Agee knocking now

Nothing against Ogo, but I seem to remember a lot of these same arguments when we signed Blackburn last spring. Despite the fact that Ray dominated at the JUCO level, it did not translate into the same type of success when it came to D-1 ball. Can't compare Blackburn to Ogo. Because of a lack of playing time Blackburn transferred from Monroe CC to D-2 Erie CC . At Erie CC he averaged 19 ppg, but this was accomplished playing against a weak schedule, such as Jamestown Community College, Jamestown Community College at Olean and Alfred Ag Tech. Ogo on the other hand averaged 15 ppg playing against the best JUCO teams in the nation at the NJCAA-D1 Tournament, which he made the All-Tournament Team. This is the same tournament that Jonathan Hall (Bonnies leading scorer) was named the MVP. www.cybersportsusa.com/statBB_TourneyIndividual.asp?tc_id=2173&seas_id=2008&All=0&rpt=1Actually statistically Blackburn compared very well to Malcolm, especially during out of conference games. In a thread titled "OOC report card" (link at bottom) I posted about Blackburn leading the team with 104 points and a 14.8 ppg average over the last 7 games. At the time he also led the team in assists. During conference games Blackburn's playing time was reduced, because of injury and personal issues. Until then Blackburn was the more effective point guard. bonabandwagon.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=4899#39855

Assistant coach at Memphis stated their staff was following Ogo closely eyeing him as a backup PG candidate - they really liked his game and stated St bonas got a better PG than most people think

Good info to hear, jh! Thanks! Hey, we've found some strong talent out there in the past that has been able to help us even just for one or two years (eg. Kevin Houston). Who knows what Ogo can bring to the table?
