Spent some time watching Maurice Jones do his thing at the RC today. The kid is for real and will bring back memories of one Marques Green. He is fast, quick and a great passer. Didnt look to shoot much but made a dozen nice dishes for layups and set up Andrew numerous times for easy hoops. On the def. end he uses his quickness to slap the ball away from the blind side, and has great court awareness with regards to screens. Fun to watch in the open floor as he went by both Agee and Ogo with ease. Would be a HUGE get for the program. Also Andrew played with a fire today as he dominated in the paint....

THIS IS A GREAT POST..THANKS FOR THE INSIGHT!.....i hope Maurice chooses us...im sure they have showed him the Bonnies uncanny history of extraordinary diminutive PG's.....like Penn state-linebacker U .......USC's tailbacks.........Bonaventure's dominating diminutive point guards..all in the same breath....

What would make a kid with his talent chose SBU? Because a lot of coaches, especially those at BCS schools, like bigger guards. Look at the schools who came to watch his open gym - Oakland, Ball State, Toledo, SBU. Not exactly the big time. So he might chose SBU because SBU might be his best option. Plus Mark can use Shandue, Marques and Tim Winn as great recruiting tools. Look what these little pgs did. You can do the same. I would definitely like to have this kid, but please slow down with Marques comparisons and saying this kid is the next coming. He hasn't even played his senior year in high school and he isn't exactly a blue chip recruit. Again, I think he'd be a great pickup but I think we can get out of hand with comparisons. Marques Green was a once in a lifetime type of player (seven school records).

adolph- the comparisons to Green are his mannerisms and the way he gets up and down the floor with the ball in his hands. He will not have to score as much as Green with the cast of players he will be playing with. This kid will make guys better, and make teams have to worry about his speed and quickness. He has the potential to be mentioned with the best who have played the position. I dont know how far back you go watching the Bonnies but the measuring stick for me is one Glenn Hagan, who could have avg. 20 a game if he wanted but played with hall of famers Hollis and Sanders for three years and didnt need to score like Green had to. You will love this kid if he comes !!!

For St. Bonaventure standards, Maurice Jones is a "blue chip" recruit. Reasons he is a prized recruit: 1. Recently received an offer from a Big East school (rival link at bottom). Offer from a Big East school should qualify as a prized recruit. Hopefully Bonnies can sign him in the early signing period, because he has the talent to attract other BCS schools. 2. He made Michigan's Class A, All State team (11 players) which is Michigan's highest Class. He led his team to a final ranking of 13th in the state. 3. Most impressive is the comments from BOTB Scouting (Michigan prep scouting). Check out the following comments: 5'7 Maurice Jones from Saginaw Arthur Hill has led Arthur Hill to numerous impressive victories this year, and has many thinking he is a Top 5 player in Michigan in the 2010 class. He flat out dominates most opponents. Jones has improved his out side shot, and is still the same speedy, slippery player who is so hard to contain; and of course he is still Michigan's crowd favorite. 4. BOTB's final rankings for Michigan's 2010 class has Maurice #4 in the state among all classes. 2010 1. Trey Ziegler Mt. Pleseant 6'5 G 2. Ray McCallum, JR Detroit Country Day 6'1 PG 3. Keith Appling Detroit Pershing 6'2 G MICHIGAN STATE 4. Maurice Jones Saginaw Arthur Hill 5'7 PG 5. Isaiah Sykes Detroit Finney 6'5 Wing 6. Devin Oliver Kalamazoo Central 6'5 SG 7. Alex Gauna Eaton Rapids 6'8 PF 8. John Horford Grand Ledge 6'9 PF 9. Devin Long Detroit Crockett 6'8 PF 10. Michael Talley, JR Melvindale B&T 5'8 PG Everyone is comparing him to Marques Green. As a long time fan of the Bonnies, I can assure you he is a higher ranked recruit than Marques Green when he was coming out of high school. Closer comparison for rankings would be Tim Winn and I still think Maurice Jones is ranked higher. Word is Maurice game is like Marques and not like Tim's. rivals.yahoo.com/duquesne/basketball/recruiting/player-Maurice-Jones-75835www.westmiallstar.com/2009/03/26/michigan-basketball-all-staters/www.maxpreps.com/list/rankings.aspx?gendersport=Boys,Basketball&myrankasked=1&mystate=MI&myranktype=state&myteamid=8503a9a3-7a33-4d51-9120-375bcbf24dcb&state=mi botbscouting.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.htmlbotbscouting.blogspot.com/search?q=maurice+jones

Marques Green was rated 85th in his class by scout. I believe Tim was 51 in his class.

Chuck, too long ago for a link but I remember Green being the last top 100 recruit we signed. The highest rated player player under the current ratings system was Michael Burnett. He was rated #32 by Hoopmasters (Bob Gibbons). Winn was also recruited by Syracuse but Rob Lanier developed a great relationship with him and he signed very early!

From what I remember Green was sort of a fly under the radar type of guy. But I can't be totally sure about that.

According to hoopscoop online, Marques was not a top 100 recruit Here's the link: www.hoopscooponline.com/members/top100classof2000.htmlBut ultimately, what do rankings mean? Not much it seems. Take for example, hoop scoops 2001 rankings. Craig Forth, the former white stiff from Syracuse, was ranked 70th in that class while teammate Hakim Warrick, who had a much better career, was ranked 91st. Beyond that, a fellow by the name of Mike Gansey was ranked all the way down at 278. Many of the guys ranked ahead didn't have the half the career that he had. Link to 2001 rankings: www.hoopscooponline.com/members/top100nationalseniorrankings.htmlThus, it matters little where Marques was slotted. The same goes for Maurice Jones. Does it really matter if he's rated the nation's 27th best point guard?
