Very impressed with the new PrestoSports live stats. They are only a second or two behind the radio. They are as close to live as you can ask for.

We have enough "shooters" we need guys who are "shot makers"! 3 for 12 tonight! I'll start with the obvious, ANDREW looked good but if we don't hit from the outside, ANDREW will be seeing alot of double teaming which he did not see tonight. MANSFIELDS guards were quick and the BONNIES had problems staying with then when we went man-to- man defense. Liked the 1-2-2 full court zone press we used in the 1st half. I love/hate HALL's game again this year. Too casual with the ball at times and he should not shoot more than 5' from the basket. DA'QUAN rebounded well(9 total) but is the new DELANCY, tough time finishing drives but not alone. Not the highest basketball IQs on this team. ROSEBORO did not play and LEWIS LEONARD only played 7 minutes. Neither PG made much of an impression, one may win by default. Looked good in transition but not so in set offenses. The BONNIES looked like what they are, a young team. I realize it was their first game and I'm probably being a little hard on them.

This game seemed like it went on forever. A total of 49 fouls called. As I have stated in the past: Davenport's problems are still evident: he cant defend on the perimeter. Players from Mansfield should not be going by you. He played 14 min. had 3 fouls and his man hit 3 three's. Coach was in his ear hard for a good 2 minutes when he came off the court. Other observations and notes: Leonard played only 7 min. Simmons only 6 min. Conger and Jake 9 min. We were out rebounded 38-33. Cook did his job with 9. That is why he is getting the nod. He still cant finish above the rim. The exhibition showed our flaws: Able to defend on the perimeter and consistent perimeter shooting. Guys like Leonard, Conger and Simmons are not going to be difference makers right away, hopefully as the season gets going someone steps up and gains Schmidt's confidence.

Overall I was hoping to see a better team performance and better outing from LL than 7 mins and one board. Lost in this lack luster game was Andrew’s 29 pts on 10-12 shooting & 9-10 from the line. He had several dunks & jump hooks but showed the outside touch he demonstarted toward the end of last season. He hit about 4 shots from 17’-20” range. Cleveland State will check him on the outside unlike Mansfield.
I thought Ogo was solid with his 9 pts in 17 mins. He shot 2-2 (one a trey) & just oneTO. He can take the ball left or right & made good passes. His one TO was a drive to the basket where the ball got pinned to his hip. I see him improving each month as he adjusts to this level of play. I really think he is a quick study who has shown dramatic improvement from his playing in the UK just a few years ago.
I would be more troubled by being out rebounded by 5 if it weren’t for the inordinate # of long rebounds off of the 23 missed treys by Mansfield. I was impressed with Mansfield and thought they played with more urgency. We were up by 14 with under 4 mins left in the half yet they came back to just 8 down at the half. In the second half we got up 14 with 5 mins left & once again they cut the lead to 8 at the buzzer. We were never able to put them away as I thought we should. Give credit to a gutty performance by the visitors.
As poorly as they shot the trey (7-30) they still outscored us by 12 pts from beyond the arc. Hopefully Ogo and maybe Conger will hit some treys along with Chris or else we will, once again, reside in the basement of the A10 in trey shooting. One thing is certain, Hall should never take a trey unless the ball is in his hands beyond the arc just before the buzzer. He was 0-2 tonight & after last year’s .179 from outside you would think that message would be delivered. I was stunned when he turned the ball over in the backcourt, to allow Mansfield to get to within 8, & then the very next possession he fires up a trey from the right side which never had a chance. He is so skilled in so many facets of the game but lacks judgment at critical times.
I’m hoping that Brett recovers quickly but would not expect him ready for Cleveland State.
