kcSBU03 and senator - sorry about the mix-up guys. I guess I got excited about the recent signings and our future and didn't pay attention close enough.Either that or I had a stroke 3 years ago and just miss these things too easily - or maybe both. no problem, ceharv...just keep taking care of yourself and keep posting...you're a regular contributor to this board, and i enjoy reading what you have to say...

Posted this over in the 2014 recruiting thread, but I had a chance to talk to coach Schmidt today about the recruiting class and more for an SBU-TV story... This is what I guessed would be the rotation based on that conversation:
PG - Alston, Jay. Adams, TBD (Posley or Gathers... despite what Schmidt wants) SG - Gathers, J. Adams, Posley SF - Cumberbatch, Gregg (J. Adams can get a shot here eventually) PF - Wright, Smith (Tyson and Dees may get some run here if they go big) C - Youssou, Tyson, Dees

I truly believe that we will see a lot out of Jalen Adams this year. The kid can flat out play he is very athletic and has a very underrated jumper. And keep in mind he already has practiced for a whole yer an has learned the system. We will definitely see a lot of him this year.

I expect Youssou, Gathers & Wright to get a lot of playing time because of experience. The competition for other playing time should be open and fierce. Those who show they can learn the system, handle A-10 competition and contribute as needed will earn playing time. At this point all the players seem capable, the ones with experience will have edge but any of the others could surprise and be key contributors leading to post season. A key to post a post season is finding of players who show they can handle ball or have an outside shot and still play defense. I agree that if Tyson can earn backup center time it should free up Dees to add bulk to PF position when needed. If Smith has bulked up some he could also earn PF time. Expect it will take some time into the season to sort out a rotation.

Who finishes and who gets the most minutes is more important than who starts. I'm worried about where the points come from with that starting five. Cumberbatch should be the top scorer, but didn't show much last season. Wright isn't someone you design your offense to get the ball to. Ndoye should have plays designed for him, but he's not Nicholson on the post. Gathers should see his production go up, but not enough to be the leading scorer.
I think we'll have balanced scoring, possibly led by Ndoye with some early outbursts. I would not be surprised to see Posley or Jalen lead the team in scoring in conference play as I think they will start earning more time and one will move into the starting five by conference play.
I think the group that will finish games will be Alston, Gathers, Jalen, Wright, Ndoye. Those guys will also lead in minutes at their positions.

I would love to see Schmidt mix it up and play Alston pg, gathers SG, j adams sf, Gregg pf, wright c. Use that lineup to play a full court press for a couple minutes when needed. A lineup full of athletes

Wright can't be a rim protector and Gregg can't handle the big guys down there. The athlete lineup I'd like to see is Alston, Jalen, Gregg, Wright, Tyson. A full court press and a 1-3-1 zone with that group will be tough. Gregg at the top, Tyson at the back.

Dion at the top, Gregg trapping or making steals from the wing.

Can Tyson be compared to any other bona player over the past 10 years or so? I dont mean to cut Dees down, but I had higher hopes for him than he was this past season. I expected more of a D Cook role out of him

Dees will see his fair share of time on the court - Yousoo's backup - more than Tyson. The way that Schmitt brings up fresh i.e. Xavier Smith or Dion Wright - not sure how much time he will get in. With Smith riding the pines all season long, maybe he will come back next season as a brand NEW XAVIER SMITH.
With all the speed that is coming in, it will help both on offense and defense. We could see Coach run this five - Adams1, Adams2, Alston, Gathers, Cumberbatch, Wright. This is a West Coast Shake and Bake - Run and Gun - the offense that I would like to see run.
Go Bonnies

Thanks for sharing. We're in for a long four years if we can't find a better way to differentiate than "The Michigan native Adams" and "The Baltimore native Adams." Anyone remember how we did it with the Congers?
