I think the better questions is, other than center(Ndoye), is every other starting postion up for grabs? Best case starting line-up:
PG-Jaylen Adams, he beats out Alston for starting job because he can shot 3's, can run the offense just as well and make free throws. SG-Jalen Adams, while unlikely because Gathers is a senior, JA's athletism, having already been in the program for a year and consistent shooting wins out SF-Gregg-what a log jam PF-Wright-I guess we need an upper classman but I think Jordan Tyson with his physical gifts is a real wild card. Do we really think DW is the answer come A-10 season? Where is Xavier Smith in his development? C--Ndoye
Does Schmidt finally have the team/guards/depth to press and go up-tempo like his teams did at Robert Morris?

PG - Alston/Posley (even split) SG - Gathers F/G - Cumberbatch F - Wright C - Ndoye
Gathers' defense and leadership keep him in the starting lineup. Gregg's a freak athlete, but he's not a starter without a better jumper. Taqqee and Jaylen Adams will have a hard time getting on the floor this year. Xavier Smith and Jordan Tyson should be excited at the end of this signing period. There are minutes to be had at the 4 and 5.

I see an uptempo team utilizing the 1-3-1 press more this year. I think D wright makes great strides this season as well as D Gregg. Yousou can be a major factor in the paint if he stays out of foul trouble. I'm pumped that we got 2 ball handlers who can also shoot the 3.

It should be a battle in practices for playing time. Center is set with Ndoye and Dees as backup. the question is whether Tyson ready to earn some time. Wright is Power Forward with questions being has he bulked up enough to handle bigger forwards and added a jump shot? Smith, Gregg, & maybe Tyson should get to show what they can do. Small forward should a wide open battle with Cumberbatch being experienced but inconsistent, Gregg with size & athletism, Adams the super athlete and maybe Taqee the reported all round player. Gathers experience and versitility has the edge at SG but who can play defense and also bring some scoring especially from outside may decide playing time. Posey the reported shooter , Adams the reported super athlete scorer should battle for time with Cumberbach & Tagee may get a look. The key to the year may be who wins the PG role. Who can handle A-10 pressure, play defense and either score or assist in the offense. Alston, Posey and maybe Jaylen Adams will get their chance to show what they can do. Gathers will be default because of his experience.
We should have depth, be able to play defense and rebound. The questions which will determine success will be who can do those things and also limit turnovers and shoot? History has shown those answers only really come when you start playing league games.

Dont forget Coach typically doesnt use Freshmen a lot so I wouldnt expect Jaylen to start unless he really shows something. Alston was brought in to be the starter. I think Posley will get a lot of minutes given his experience. The log jam at SF will be a battle all summer/fall. I think we will see Tyson and Xavier get some run behind Ndoye, Dees and Dion. This team has me foaming at the mouth

There are some parts of the depth chart I am not really sure about because I haven't seen some of the players yet, but here is a shot.
PG- Alston will start with Posley backing him up. Unless someone is injured, I don't see Jaylen Adams playing too much.
SG- Gathers I think will start at the beginning of the year. He might fall into a 6th man spot as the year goes on. I will be curious to see where Jalen Adams plays. Will he play the 2 or 3. Don't be surprised if Alston and Posley are playing at the same time with Posley at the 2. He sounds to be our best 3 pt shooter.
SF- I am really hoping Gregg starts the year at the 3. I am not really confident in Cumberbatch at all. I feel like he made a ton of mistakes last year and Gregg played pretty good as a freshman. If not Gregg starting then I hope it is Jalen starting. Not sure if Taqqee get much playing time but I could see it at the 2 or 3
PF- Dion will be starting and hopefully Fiske bulks him up more this offseason. If Xavier bulks up also, I can see him getting sometime here. No idea with Tyson. Hoping he can get some minutes at the 4 and 5. Then there is Dees who will be a solid backup at the 4 and 5.
C- Ndoye, If he can play like he was at the end of this year, it could be a really good season
I like the depth alot. Happy Schmidt brought in a couple JUCO guards bc I think they can fill in for Kloof and Wright. Really excited about this team next year, and hope we can make some kind of run with it being Ndoye's Senior season

I think the starting five will be Alston-Gathers-Adams-Wright-Ndoye. Posley and Cumberbatch to provide bench scoring.
What I'd really like to see for maybe five minutes a game is Alston or Posley at point with Taqqee-Smith-Gregg-Tyson and run a full court press, fast break style, just to be disruptive.

Posley is a prize recruit - you are likely under estimating him if you dont have him penciled in as a starter

Posley is a prize recruit - you are likely under estimating him if you dont have him penciled in as a starter He isn't a natural PG though so it seems hard to pencil him over Alston who is more of a natural point. Its gonna be quite the battle in the first few weeks of practice though that's for sure.

All the new gaurd recruits came from top teams that played other good teams. For obvious reasons, such guards often have an easier transition and often can be major contributors their first year. Hopefully that will be the case with some of our recruits.

Ok. We have our team. And, we are starting to try to determine our depth chart. Hard to do when we haven't seen many of these players. I can attest to that. Even when I have seen players play during the summer scrimmages, it is hard to determine who will shine when the lights come on. We have somewhat of an idea who will start. Certainly Youssou and Dion Wright. Gathers has to start somewhere. So, who starts at the point, and the small forward? Really, I'm not going to guess. I'm not going to guess even after I see them play this summer. There are so many things to consider. We do have though, many possibilities. At the point....Alston, Adams, Gathers, maybe even Posley. Somebody should step up. I'm concerned with the "3". Cumberbatch? Denzell? Adams? I just don't see a Conger or a Johnny Hall on the team. I think that question, more than any other, needs to be answered. Don't forget, coach doesn't play many players. Will he change his philosophy? These questions won't be answered until after practice starts next October. To pencil in starters now is......just a guessing game. It appears though, that we have some talent. The A 10 will be different this year. Last year there were many A 10 teams with veteran teams. Many of those vets are gone. Good bye Langston Galloway! I'm expecting Bonnies to be n the upper half of the league. You've got the horses coach.....let 'em run........

It certainly appears we have the talent in place to finish above .500 in the A10. Depth charts are above my pay level and probably above everyone else's at this point. The chemistry of how different combinations work is yet to be determined and then re-determined when the pressure cooker is turned on. Speaking of chemistry, one thing I'm hopeful of seeing is the alley-oop becoming a frequent event in a high-powered offense. I understand, however, that it is defense that makes champions.

The biggest battle will be at the SG position. It will be fun to watch those guys battle each other for the spot
