Here is some info before everyone takes off for what I hope is a blessed and fun filled 4th of July weekend.
1) Jalen Adams (MICH) broke his ankle and is in a walking boot, recovery time for him is 4 weeks. He begins rehab on July 27th back home in Detroit. His spirits are high and he looks bigger in his chest and arms then last year.
2) Jordan Tyson has broken fingers on his right hand that from what I heard happened when he was frustrated and hit a wall. He is in a soft cast and his recovery time is also 4 weeks.
3) Jordan Gathers had surgery on his groin a few days ago back home in LA. His recovery time is much longer, 4-6 months, which puts him back just before the season starts IF all goes well. Keep him in your prayers
4) The consensus from the guys I talked to is that Jaylen Adams (MD) has impressed the most, Dion Wright told me he is the most fun PG he has ever played with, let that sink in for a while.
5) Spoke with some of the guys regarding Iakeem and they all agree he is trying to score too much and needs to become a better pass first PG.
6) Posley looked great, shot the ball extremely well and you could see he really got along with the rest of the guys right off the bat.
7) Idris also looked really good, he is every bit of 6'4 maybe even 6'5, he is long and can defend multiple positions. He defended, Adams, Alston, Posley and Batch in all one game.
8) For the returners, all are at summer session II except Jordan (Surgery), Yousou (Working out in MN with Dieng) and Denzell (Home)
Returners:
Dion Wright- Looks like he has added some muscle, trying to expand his game to the 3pt line is what he has worked on most this offense
Andell Cumberbtach- Looks extremely thin to me, he told me he has tried to lose body fat while getting leaner and in better shape, he has worked on his ball handling and shooting from what he told me.
Jalen Adams- Told me he now benches 300lbs and his most important thing he wants to work on is his ball handling, staff has told him he will play some 1 if the new guys aren't ready yet
Xavier Smith- Only saw him for a quick second, he looks the same to me...might be hard to add weight to his body type.
Chris Dees- Looked the best out of anyone there, slimmed down a ton and looks really good. Told me he wants to average double figure REBOUNDS this season after his porr performance last season. Said he needs to attack the offensive glass more and that will allow him to earn easy buckets. Told me he wants to have at least 10 double-doubles next season.
Guys are all bummed about Massey leaving but did tell me Schmidt included them all in the interview process, he brought them all in to meet with the guys he was interviewing. Said we had about 8 guys come in and interview for it.
