Rutgers has been trying to "change the culture" since sbu beat them in the NIT @ Princeton when the scarlet knights had dabney, jordan, copeland and sellers.

In a article at ZAGSBLOGTWITTER, OBOKOH's Rutger's visit is discussed: "The Rutgers visit was very good" OBOKOH's Rochester guardian Kevan Sheppard told SNYtv "Coach Pikiell has assembled a first class staff over there." Asked what the appeal of playing at Rutgers would be, Sheppard said "The opportunity to play a big role and go against good bigs in the Big Ten. Their message is come play as many minutes as you can handle and help them change the culture." Sheppard said he was uncertain when OBOKOH might decide. "I'm waiting like everybody else on a decision,," he said "He never set a drop dead date but I suspect it will be soon." If the kid makes a decision to go to Rutgers primarily for academic reasons since he will be a grad student I would fully understand. If his decision is basketball, than that would be astounding to me. Rutgers is one of the worst basketball programs in the country. They are coming off a 1-17 Big 10 record, 7-25 overall and have hired a coach from Stony Brook to revive the program. Rutgers does not belong in the Big 10 and most likely will go 1-17 and 7-25 again next year. They are years away. Why he would waste his final year of eligibility (possibly 2) losing at Rutgers when he could compete for an A-10 title and play with great guards who can get him the ball is astounding to me.

To me its more about if he couldnt get big minutes in the ACC, why would he get big minutes in the B1G? Sure Rutgers might play him more than Cuse did but that doesnt mean he belongs in the B1G. Bias aside, I think hes an A10 caliber player and would be better served playing here.

Recruiting is a game and the recruits need to play it as much as the coaches do. If Obokoh comes out and says, "Rutgers basketball is horrible, I'm coming here because they have this great grad degree that will set me up for after I leave these losers behind," that won't play well.
I wouldn't be surprised if he goes with Rutgers for a degree program that other schools don't offer. If he's really going for the basketball, he's making a bad choice.

Totally agree with every point made in the above assessments of the Rutgers scenario for Chino.
When Rutgers signed Sa on April 28th I figured the impact of Chino playing a big role in helping them win more than 1 game in conference disappeared. Sa’s addition along with 6’11”/270 Doorson, 6’10/240 Diallo, and probably 6'9" Issa Thiam, makes for a very crowded field of BIGS if Chino goes there. And Piekell has said he feels good about the returning bigs now that they are healthy. Turning around a dreadful program, which has not had a winning season since 2005, will be a monumental task that will see minimal progress over the next 1 to 2 years. The disparity between Rutgers & their BIG Ten competition is stunning. The opportunity to DANCE at Rutgers is ZERO!
They lost conference games by an average of 20 pts with many embarrassing beat downs. 50 pt loss to Purdue! 39 pts to NW, and 5 losses by 30 pts or more. Their total inability to compete at this level saw only 42% of their seats with fannies in them. Football gets the interest & attention not hoops.
Kevan & Annmarie Sheppard have done a fine job as Chino’s sponsor since his arrival from Nigeria 9 years ago. Chino will make his own decision but I’m sure they will provide input.
Chino’s stated goal is to be a starter playing major minutes & making a difference for the team he selects. From a basketball decision, the distinct possibility of sitting far more mins than he wants and watching a losing team struggle to win a few games in conference would be a sad way to end his college career which to this point has seen minimal playing time (158 mins). All the best to Chino in making an important decision. Would love seeing him as an important contributor playing for a winning team that will challenge for the A10 crown AGAIN in front of passionate fans that hold up Bona hoops as everything.

faffy44...I totally agree on Thiam who I indicated would probably be added to further crowd the # of players looking for playing time in the paint.
Chino is a smart college grad who is well aware of the critical differences between playing at Bona or Rutgers. When he was interviewed some weeks ago he mentioned that God will guide him in his decision. With God as his guiding force I am confident he will select wisely & ensure a good personal match for himself.
Once again, all the best to Chino and the Sheppard family as he weighs all the factors in where to close out his college career. No doubt the Bonnies will be special with him.

This is a real good get! He really is exactly what we need. Sure he didn't play a lot at Syracuse but he practiced everyday for 3 years against some really good bigs. This upgrades Bona big time in my opinion

Any news lately on whether we are planning to use the last ship?

Any news lately on whether we are planning to use the last ship? I would imagine that there isn't going to be a rush on using it. Coach tends to hold the last ship for that "Just in case" scenario.

KALIF YOUNG has committed to Providence so maybe we can get him on the rebound when Providence recruits over him in the next couple years.

EMMITT HOLT, now KALIF, maybe S B U should consider the Providence assistant in charge of recruiting as a replacement for Coach SCHMIDT if he moves on in a couple of years.

Titans Ink JUCO Defensive Stalwart Isaiah Jones
DETROIT (5/19/2016) -- Offense may win games, but defense wins championships and that is the key for the latest signing for the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team as head coach Bacari Alexander '99 announced the addition of 6-11, 240-lb center Isaiah Jones (Antelope, Calif. / Center / Mt. San Jacinto College). Jones will have two years of eligibility at Detroit Mercy. "Isaiah is a very mature kid who has Midwest roots and played for a winning coach in Patrick Springer," said coach Alexander. "His passion to improve as a player and person is what stood out the most in our evaluation of him. As a premier defender and rebounder with size, he comes from another winning program at Mt. San Jacinto, and it is another position we needed to develop some depth and size."
