POSLEY's "slump" ties into JAYLEN's injury in a couple ways. With ALSTON out there or when GREGG fills in for him, neither gets the ball quickly to a wide open POSLEY like JAYLEN did. Opposing teams know GREGG & ALSTON are not outside shots and their defender leans to help double team POSLEY making it difficult for him to get open or he hurries now to get his shots off.

Was unable to get Gary on the internet and had no video. From the sound of things I didn't miss much. The next three games are games we need to win. Take care of business in the RC and St. Louis and our 10-8 record is an accomplishment considering the thin bench and injury to Jay. I kind of doubt he is back this season but all in all the season has been a real roller coaster.

there's always 1 thing that annoys me at the end of a bad loss. Tonight? Alston basically says **** it and decides now is the best time to work on his 3 pt stroke by launching 2 bricks. Goodnight! I wonder what happened to make Schmidt think that Alston has earned that privilege and Jalen takes one bad shot in garbage time and gets yanked? Were any of Alstons ill advised shots in Schmidt's massive playbook? To me it seems like Schmidt has different rules for different players.

not sure what the love fest is for jalen adams? hes on the bench for a reason. and when he does get in it seems as if he always takes an ill advised shot and get yanked.

Interesting point. I never thought about it like that. Posley has been missing wide open looks too so maybe he is trying too hard. He just needs to relax and get right.

Who leads the team in turnovers? I would be surprised if it wasn't Yousou.

Poseley is averaging over 35 minutes a game. He is worn down just by the amount of minutes logged. That and the reasons already mentioned about missing Jaylen are probably why he is not connecting on the 3 pointers. YN is averaging close to 30 minutes a game. His number of turnovers is also due to the amount of minutes he has logged and the fact that he is six or seven years into the game and for four of those years he has been in a D1 program learning on the fly. Without either we would be lucky to be 3-12 right now. I think it is obvious that Jalen is not getting it done in practice where the coaching staff is evaluating how a guy is doing. He is a freshman with three years in front of him on a team where three starters will be graduating. The opportunity for playing time could not be any better looking forward. Somewhere along the line he has to seize the opportunity in front of him. I am not going to knock our guys for overachieving this season, particularly YN, MP and DW. There are a few posters on this board who need to tone down the criticism on our players and get realistic regarding expectations. As has been the case all season, we need to regroup and get ready for Duquesne, St. Louis and Fordham.

At this point I'd seriously stop trying to execute so much in the half court and I'd run in transition every opportunity I got. We do not have the personnel right now to execute in the half court. Youssou has significantly declined; and Marcus is really the only guard teams need to defend.
I know Coach Schmidt was thinking about running a lot more last year and this year, but we haven't really seen it. Especially with Adams out, this team needs to run. They're all athletes and can all push the ball down the floor. Running turns a lot of weaknesses into strengths, as Andell and Marcus are struggling in sets but are both very polished in transition.
We scored 100 points against Duquense the first time around. If we try to play like we did last night - or even at times at St. Joes' - we won't score 50 on Saturday.

My thought is that he wants Ndoye involved offensively at all costs and since most 7 footers can't run as well as the smaller, more athletic guys, we see mostly a half court game filled with bad decisions due to shot clock issues or just butt ugly 3 point attempts.

I really don't even know why I read the board after a loss. It's like a dang roller coaster on here after wins and losses. This team is inconsistent. I think everyone knew this after the non-conference season. I have been expecting 9-9 for this team in conference play, because it seems like they show up for one game, and then basically don't even step off the bus for the next game. They should win the next 3 games, being favored in all 3, but they probably won't because this team is inconsistent.
Going off of someone saying this is the 2nd worst team Schmidt has had. Really? This team may end up with victories against the two best teams in the A10 this year. One on the road. Schmidt's second year they beat no one. You could make a case this team is just as good as Schmidt's third year team, and the year Conger was a Senior.
This team clearly misses Jay. The St.Joe's win I think gave us a reason for too much optimism. I think without Jay it shows how much we really miss his basketball IQ. He probably has the highest basketball IQ on the team and he is a Freshman. I also need to praise Dion. He has been Mr.Consistent on a inconsistent team. He plays smart basketball for this team and he has been the only player you count on night in and night out. These two players also show up as the two most efficient offensive players on this team. They are only two players with an offensive rating of over 110 in Kenpom.
I am very curious about this team next year. Cumberbatch and Ndoye are the two players I never feel comfortable with when they have the basketball. Cumberbatch has been a stat stuffer this year, I will give him that. He has given us some big 3s too. He just makes a lot of mistakes though. There has been so many times this year where I just scratch my head trying to figure out what he was trying to do there. He just doesn't seem to know the situation of the game very often which hurts the team. Ndoye has grown leaps and bounds over his 4 years. He defense is awesome. His offense though is not efficient. Too many times he forces shots in the post or doesn't pass it out when he is double and triple teamed. He is only shooting 47% this year.
Posley I think can have a more efficient offensive game. I think at this moment he feels he needs to carry this team on his back which is why he is forcing shots. He has ran out of gas.
I think next year if the ball is in Jay's, Posley's, and Wright's hands we are in good shape. Hopefully Denzel can shore up his mistakes we have seen this year from him. The rest of the team is truly a mystery. Hopefully it is players improving their basketball IQ or ones who already have it.

Not sure where I would check on that. Being that point guards have the ball in their hands most of the time, I find that a bit surprising. I don't want to be accused of bang'n on Yousou but he does have that dubious distinction by a significant margin. Guards that cant shoot and a big who is too unreliable with the ball, makes it hard to run any kind of offense.

I would agree, especially over the last few weeks AZ, that we've relied far too much on the half court game. It's not working and the tempo needs to change for us to have any amount of success over the last few games.
