The wording of leading or starring for a team was not the issue discussed. It was about allotting more and more playing time for freshmen and for them to contribute. Jay was a pleasant and welcome surprise last year for the Bonnies and I give Mark credit for recognizing his talents and the chance to play immediately.

Should Bonas add more majors, preferably some obscure ones to attract 5 year players? May I offer welding as an example...a welding program might just land the next great player.

Without regard to what is happening with other teams or in the top10 conferences, what will happen in Olean, NY is dependent on the specific freshmen that are on the roster for the Bonnies. Coach has now demonstrated he will play a freshman that can contribute. Now the question becomes do our freshman have more ability to contribute than the others on the roster?
In general, the A10 is a league where players develop. In particular, St. Bonaventure is a program that has needed to rely on player development. Let's hope this year's recruiting cohort is all we want it to be and we don't have to wait for them to come along.

First of all, you are a douchebag, but more to the point - what could be a more unique (obscure in your parlance) graduate opportunity than the Franciscan Institute?

Chuck, You may certainly be right, and ultimately I think he will be a better player than those two that I named. Just wanted to taper expectations a bit, but I do think he could be a player who falls somewhere between average and pretty good for a season. Certainly think you're points are valid. www.thebonablog.com

Jay was a pleasant and welcome surprise last year for the Bonnies and I give Mark credit for recognizing his talents and the chance to play immediately. The wording was making an impact and playing. These are both things that don't happen often in the A-10. I dropped leading in there, but if you're playing 25 mpg, you're one of the leading players on the team. It is encouraging that Schmidt was willing to play Jay and give him the opportunity. I wouldn't be relying upon any of the incoming freshman for a similar impact, or any significant impact and getting a great deal of playing time. It doesn't happen often in the conference and it happens less with Schmidt.

Let's discuss this in March of 2016 and we will see what type of impact Kaputo makes playing for the Bonnies and not a Duke or Kentucky as you suggest.

He's not there to ride pine, but unless we're going to start three guys 6'1 or smaller, someone's gotta sit

But wasn't the original posting about freshman contributing in response the the discussion about giving Tyson and Woods time to develop? I hope Kaputo isn't expected to play power forward.

If Kaputo wasn't able to reclassify, I don't think he would have ever played for Bonas. Coach recognized his talent and importance to the program (Canadian pipeline) and got him signed while he could. The kid is a special player and a prime target for the sharks if he wasn't able to reclassify.

Thanks. If he's looking good right now, him just being a freshman eligibility wise is a real bonus.
