23 total wins makes us a bubble team.......beating Dayton gets us into the NCAA tournament.......it's that simple...... Rhode Island had a record of 23-9 and an RPI of 41 in 2010. While its record and RPI were worthy, it did not get an NCAA at large bid supposedly because it did not have enough "good" wins.

Another reason Rhody was overlooked was because of two late season losses to sub-150 RPI teams. Until this afternoon we had zero "bad losses," though Duquesne has now slipped under the 100 mark. Rhody also only had one top 50 win while we already have two. Our resume is superior, and we don't need to win out to keep it that way. I can't remember the last time we sported a 38 RPI in February. Hold serve, and probably come out of the weekend in the 40 range and firmly on the bubble

The formula is simple but accomplishing it is difficult. Win our remaining home games and don't get upset on the road should take care of it. Otherwise win tournament may be needed and that may require finishing at least 4th. I expect 3 NCAA bids for A-10 for teams finishing with <40 RPI unless surprise finish by some team.

For about six years I have been advocating a tougher OOC schedule and even went so far as to say that one of these years our schedule is going to be the reason we miss the dance. I read this thread and the banter about good wins and bad losses and rpi's of this opponent and that opponent and I am looking at the scenario that I talked about. Every year there are teams that have terrific overall seasons but miss out because they played nobody in November and December. One team that went through this was Va Tech and it cost the coach his job. The bad news is the schedule we played will be a major problem for an at large bid. When you are overloaded with MAAC teams and the Bingos of D1 it doesn't bode well. The good news is we are in a position to gain entrance via the regular season champion route or winning in Brooklyn. Bonnies need to win out and take the OOC SOS out of the equation. I think we are good enough to do this. Staying positive.

I wish we had a facepalm emoji I know! As my mom used to say: "coulda' shoulda' woulda'" Nothing we can do about that now. Other than take care of our business and keep winning.

BD, the fact that we are now in the hunt actually validates the current scheduling strategy. We played 4 teams with an expected top-100 RPI in the OOC and finished 1-3 against them. If we played 4 more with the same result, our record would now be 11-9. How is that better?

By beating up on the Binghamton's, SC St's, Niagara's and Canisius' of the world does not merit anything and that's evident. If Bonas played 4 more <top-100 teams and even split them, that's better than beating 4 lousy teams. OOC just needs to be better for a host of reasons, not just to get the RPI up.

Bw02, you have to deal with the reality of what we achieved, not a hypothetical performance superior to the actual history. This team was given time to develop and is now prepared for a higher level. The fact is that we are now in the conversation. Don't try to fix what ain't broke.

Sorry - but that is just plain wrong. In truth, beating Siena and Hofstra would have made a big difference, as would have beating Duquesne. Losing the same number of games against P5 teams would have done nothing to better our position.

There are a ton of good teams outside of P5 conferences. Playing mediocre teams does nothing for the team or University. Playing a stronger schedule - against better teams - helps with not only making the team better, assisting with SOS/RPI, but also helps improve recruiting and provides invaluable exposure and marketing for the University. The bigger picture folks.

The bigger picture folks. You are correct. You did not say anything about P5, so sorry for that. Most on here calling for a schedule upgrade do, and I let my reply get away from me. Anyway, Niagara and Canisius aren't going anywhere. A sprinkling of teams like the others you mentioned are not a problem and are a reality in today's college scheduling situation. Anyway, as they say in the ESPN synopsis linked in another thread, the Bonnies schedule is a "Pro" in the tourney discussion this year. Unfortunately, they still needed to win at least 1 or 2 of games I cited to be on firmer ground.
