By order of SMC and the fort crew - no Catholic symbols or Franciscan symbols will be allowed in the main meeting room of the ministries/outreach center. Sound bizarre - well it is. This is a Catholic Franciscan University - but apparently some revisionists are now pushing the agnostic approach. Unreal. Hoping our order and our fellow alums on the search committee will restore our sense of pride in our Catholic faith and Franciscan heritage with the next, new and different administration.

What was the reason given? I'm sure San Junipero Serra had Catholic symbols and maybe Franciscan symbols in his missions in California. His missions were meeting places as well as churches. It doesn't hurt for a Catholic institution to say we are Catholic. It doesn't hurt to follow Franciscan traditions.

Did I miss something? The OTH article says Brenda was CFO. She's done a good job. What's the relevance of campus ministries to this announcement?
Edit: Oh, I see there's a sentence there that she'll be supporting the Family Ministries Center in retirement. Dominus vobiscum.

It is one room in the about-to-be renovated Merton Center. We are not taking down the crosses in the classrooms. The bell tower won't be toppled. Bona's has the chapel, the Grotto, St. Joseph's Oratory and wherever two or more of us gather in his name to pray and practice our faith. Can't we provide a space for those of other faiths to practice theirs? FirstDev sir, you have succeeded in minimizing any good points you may have had with your constant rants. Just because you say something over and over it is not automatically fact. You are borderline delusional.

Google the psychological profile of internet trolls, and then stop supplying the oxygen for the fire.

I understand that several other administrators are leaving. Hopefully the new president has the opportunity to create a management team that will increase enrollment and encourage more donations to the university.

Creating a ministries center with a main meeting room/area/space devoid of Catholic and Franciscan symbols is emblematic of cultural problem here. We should be rejoicing in our Catholic faith and Franciscan heritage, not embarrassed to display our symbols of faith and community. Again the politically and apparently religiously correct crowd at the fort have now embarked on a plan that is counter to the very Catholic foundation of the university. Why be ashamed to be a faithful, practical Catholic and a follower of St. Francis? This ministries plan needs to altered and soon too.

Hopefully the new president has the opportunity to create a management team that will increase enrollment and encourage more donations to the university. Its standard practice for VP level administrators to hand in resignations in advance of a new presidential appointment and allow that president to accept the resignation or retain them in that position. As a result, its not uncommon to see some administrators just opt to retire, rather than go through that process.

Sounds like somebody is not welcoming of other faiths.

Sounds like somebody is not welcoming of other faiths. Why did you do this? Because sometimes, unfortunately, it's comical
