Some recognition without being over-hyped. This is a good place to start and then begin climbing.

Some recognition without being over-hyped. This is a good place to start and then begin climbing. Is this the highest they have had the Bonnies? I remember they snubbed us a few times but can't remember last year ... In the 90s?

I think we were in the 80s or 90s last year, Cope. Someone here will probably be able to recall.... Now I've looked it up and we were #83. It's something to lose Dion and Marcus and still have such a bright picture.
Edit: BTW, I thought there was a tweet that Dion signed with a pro team in Japan. Not sure whether that's been mentioned here. Has Marcus landed a position yet?

Same as recruits, these rankings mean nothing. If Bona gets praised it's gospel and joins Jay Bilas infamy. If disrespected, the writers are hacks and didn't do their homework. Time will tell. Just as Bona underclassmen are expected to make huge leaps in progress but no other A10 program can experience the same growth.

demourse is 100% correct. Until the balls start bouncing who really knows how things will fall. It seems on paper that we are loaded across the board but hard to figure how other schools are looking right now. I kind of like starting back in the pack and moving forward.

This board is a good meeting place for grumpy old men. You could say "good morning" and some yahoo would want to take issue with it. Very amusing, however.

For reference, I noted that two of the Bonnies' competitors in the Lone Star were also ranked in the CSM Top 144: UALR at #123 and Pepperdine at #124.

Now, back to the summary, JOSH AYENI is just an afterthought while numerous posters seem to think JOSH is going to be capable contributor, it will be interesting to see which side is correct.

Now, back to the summary, JOSH AYENI is just an afterthought while numerous posters seem to think JOSH is going to be capable contributor, it will be interesting to see which side is correct. A freshman contributor under Schmidt is, to say the least, rare. The odds are against Ayeni contributing due to that, but the transfer of Woods and surgeries for Andoh may open some time for him as it did for Woods last year. The other option, or hope, is that Ayeni is another Jay Adams who will start from day one. I would think those odds are against him though with Obokoh, Gregg, and Andoh having experience and Ikpeze having the size that the other bigs don't provide.

Have you read what coach had to say about Ayeni? Evidently not! Coach says Ayeni will be expected to contribute immediately. Very unusual for coach to say that about a first year player. Coach said we will play who will help us win...."be it a freshman or a fifth year player". Hmmmmn. I mean, this is not my opinion.... It's coach speaking.

I'm not sure why there is a hesitancy on the board to think this kid will contribute - and will do so early. By comparison - Ikpeze months ago was offered by Stony Brook , Derrick Woods had an offer from Niagara - over a year ago this kid had Western Kentucky ,Southern Miss, Cleveland State and other similar levels OFFERS (not just showing interest)
May 2015 article from Western Kentucky - out of High School (we are getting him out of Prep a year later, stronger, bigger)
Ayeni looking for right fit; prep school an option
If WKU is looking for an athletic, versatile post player, Bmore's Finest AAU coach Brian Scott believes Joshua Ayeni could be a fit.
Ayeni – a 6-foot-8, 225-pound senior forward – was offered by WKU after his AAU club's trip to Louisville for an Under Armour event last month.
"Josh is really the consummate stretch four," Scott said. "I think he's what a lot of colleges are looking for right now out of their four man – the ability to rebound, ability to defend and also stretch the defense out. He's not a 3-point shooter yet, but from 15, 17 feet, he's pretty consistent from that range."
Ayeni averaged 12.5 points and 6.4 rebounds as a senior at St. Frances Academy in Baltimore.
"He does really well guarding around the rim," Scott said. "The good thing about him is that if he needs to hedge on the screen, he can do that as well. He has good timing."
Scott said finding the right long-term fit is the most important thing to Ayeni. Going to prep school for a year is still on the table.
"Naturally, he wants to go on to a four-year school," Scott said. "Fit is more important than anything – finding the right school academically, finding the right school athletically to fit what his needs are. That's what he's been holding out for. He has quite a few offers to pick from, but he wants to make sure it's the best opportunity, especially with 500-plus kids transferring again. He doesn't want to lump himself into that bunch."

The reason I put Ikpeze up there ahead of him is that we need a big rebounder and Ikpeze is the biggest guy on the team from the minute he showed up. Ayeni may have more skills, but who is the guy who is going to sit down in the paint and get us a rebound when we need it. Ikpeze's measurables say he's that guy. There's more to the game than measurables, but that size counts for something and its something that no one else provides. If he can move, he'll get minutes.

Not one organized practice and guy's are trying to figure out who will be getting the playing time. Other than the returning starters it's a guess at best. Two years ago all I read was about Jalen Adams being the best player on campus and he hardly saw the court. Idris Taqqee comes on campus with little fanfare and logs solid minutes as a freshman and becomes a starter as a sophomore. Mark runs a complicated offense and strong emphasis on defense. The guy's who stand out in the above will be the guy's first off the bench. I think it is wide open. Also, the pre season rankings are so tough to predict after the Top 10 nationally. Nice to get the recognition but wouldn't put much into preseason projections.
