Admins please do your due diligence in handing the likes of snufan2018. He’/she is not even worth individually engaging with. But such slanderous, baseless and erroneous claims as to say one person is the only one who “deserves” to be on the team next year? That’s not what this board is about. Such a claim and the nature of all of sbufan2018s post are not simply just having an opinion. No, they are nothing but deconstrucvie feebly founded sensationalisms and there is no place for that. To claim tha a single player is the only one worthy of a roster spot next year? I don’t think I need to expand on why that’s ridiculous, unfounded and unacceptable. If everyone would not respond to them and use the block feature, this wouldn't be a problem. To me, one of the biggest problems is the people who engage them, instead of blocking them. When they re-register under a different name, block them again. Unfortunatley the block feature only works when you're logged in. On a mobile site, you never remain logged in when you close the browser. I've tried what I can and no longer engage individually but this one particular poster really irks me. I'm well aware I shouldn't let it get to me, but sometimes catching someone in the right moment, especially during a frustrating time like right now. End of the day you're correct. I've gotta be better.

We are so hard on Poyser because we all hoped he would be the next Posely or Mobley. No. He went 1/9 and had 1 rebound. He’s been a total non factor. I’m hard on him because he duped Schmidt and the fans. He offers absolutely nothing to this team. Not a shooter, not a slasher, not a facilitator, doesn’t rebound. What does he do? It’s hard to believe he was so highly touted in Canada and a decent player at UNLV. Poyser DUPED Mark Schmidt and the fans - are you out of your $#$% mind? First of all - its absolutely disgusting to see multiple threads attacking any child/player who works their ass off to play for our university with no pay. Amazing how the koolaid gang is ok blasting and denegrating a child but heaven forbid saying a single word against a 55 year old man getting paid near 900k a year - its backwards to say the least and I wish these bashing threads of a child/player to be removed. Ever consider the kid might read it? or his parents/friends might read it or potential new recruits might read it? A 19 yr old child Poyser DUPED the 55 yr old 900k paid coach: (This might be the post of the decade) Poyser went out and recruited himself to St Bonas Coach Scmidt had a gun to his head to sign Poyser There was no other player in the country Schmidt was allowed to offer a ride to Poyser told Coach that he was gonna play 35+ minutes a game all season Coach was not allowed to see for himself in his own gym the game that Poyser had or didnt have to determine starting Maybe Josh Ayeni DUPED schmidt too last year when he started 22 games over Stockard ? Stockard has to learn how to dupe the coach? The silence of the minions - watching a kid get roasted on this board (in not 1 thread but as many as 3 threads) - and not posting a single defense/disagreement with it - drink your koolaid.

Things I liked. Lofton hunting for his own shot. Several possessions in the first half Lofton was more aggressive finding his own opportunities. He is our second best offensive option and we need that aggressiveness from him.
Ikpeze passing out of the post. Yeah Ikpeze isn't the guy we all hoped he would develop into but on a more frequent basis he is passing back out to the guards when he gets it inside and has nothing. For him this is a big improvement, he also has been doing this without throwing the ball away which is often a problem for bigs.
MM providing a spark off the bench. So he went 0-2 but he had two assists including finding a cutting Lofton in traffic and two boards in only 9 minutes of action. Maybe I shouldn't be getting too excited over 2 boards but when he out rebounded Kaputo and Poyser dispite them playing 5 times as many minutes we need all the boards we can get.
OO doing more down low than block shots. Twice that I remember he stepped up to take a charge rather than hang back and go for the block. He also managed to play the second half without picking up a third foul. He will need to continue working on his rebounding but that will come with time and conditioning.
Poyser didn't start and played 18 fewer minutes than he has averaged per game so maybe the coaching staff is in agreement with many commenters.
Things I didn't like.
Poyser, Lofton and Kaputo having 3 combined rebounds in 89 minutes of action. You ask how can you be out rebounded by 20 boards? The answer is because one team sent its guards to the glass and the other had 3 combined rebounds from the guard position. I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record about the guard rebounding thing but it matters.
Poyser despite only playing 17 minutes he still almost managed to get to his season average shot attempts. The concentrated doses of shots and misses made it seem worse than it was (although it was still bad).
Welch possibly still hurt/re-injured? Welch only getting 3 minutes and someone on here saying he was limping in the second half. This is what I was afraid of in my new years resolution post. We need him to get healthy and get experience this year if he isn't going to redshirt.
Griffin only getting 3 boards. I was hoping that LG would be the big solution to our rebounding woes. I get that he is coming off injury and its only his second game back but he looked more like himself at times just not on the glass.

On a separate note we did play zone defense for a stretch but a different variation of zone than we typically see from Schmidt. This time it was more of a 3-2 with the wings doubling down if the ball got to the short corner or post. I think we need to see more of it to know if it is effective. Mason was able to collapse it/rebound well against it which led to their 3pt barrage in the middle of the second half.

I didn't pay as much attention to what kind of defense that was being played as I like to, so I don't know when/what, but for a while there in the mid-2nd half it seemed like we had them locked down. When the defense was stifling, the offense was able to convert and we were back in the game. Then, just like that, it seemed to all go away, and the game reverted to what I was afraid it was during the 5 minutes surrounding halftime. My feeling after watching these guys so far this season is that they have what it takes to put it all together. They just don't seem to have the ability to sustain that. Maybe that's what will come with more experience.

Here is my confession. The last two losses are on me. I received a new Bona T shirt for Christmas (Saturdays are for the Bonnies), and I wore it for both the Syracuse and the George Mason games - and we lost both games by double digits. Maybe it was because I wore the "Saturday" T shirt on a Sunday, or something else, but I am truly to blame here. While I will not burn the shirt (ie like Cleveland and Lebron) because I like the shirt, plus my kids gave it to me, I will no longer wear it during a Bonas game. I will go back to my "This is Bona Territory" T from now on (which I wore during the UCLA game last year). Watch out fans and trolls, we are going to be on a roll now!! I hope that the "This is Bona Territory" shirt turns it all around for the game on Wednesday against the Hawks. If not we will have to keep sending you new shirts until we find the right one.

You're 100% correct- Schmidt went into this season believing Poyser and Kaputo would be suitable veteran guards to help carry this team offensively and guide the younger guys and it hasn't worked out that way, and at nearly halfway through the season it's pretty clear that it won't. The staff definitely deserves their share of criticism for approaching this and next year with some of the guys slotted for key roles appearing to not be up to where they thought they would be. Any criticism I've made of Poyser has to do with lack of hustle, or tenativeness in using his skills/athleticsim in any way offensively. I'd rather see a guy try to create things and fail than just stand there, hold the ball and occasioanlly shoot spot up 3s. As another poster mentioned- even if Chef or Alpah struggle at least its done while trying to make something happen ( I know you didnt direct this post at me specifically, just sharing anyways) .

It seemed the 3-2 zone was somewhat effective yesterday, with good movement from the players, but a couple times on switches, LOFTON or KAPUTO would get caught down low guarding one of MASON's bigs that did not work out so well.

I am not sure why people are saying block a poster. I don't call out other posters or use foul language. I haven't called out the coach, but yes the talent isn't there on the team now. I mean how can one say anything when the team is 4 - 10 (rpi 300). I am done hitting on this point. Hopefully they win their next game and progress as a team. Hopefully that will happen. I suggested blocking because this person obviously had issues with what another was posting. Blocking is appropriate if the poster is that annoying to you. I personally block those who are always negative and almost never have a good thing to say about Bonas. They're here whining with every loss and silent with every win (unless there is something they can complain about). For me, life is too short to put up with that kind of attitude and outlook, so I block them. I leave it to the admins to decide who gets to stay here. In the meantime, I block those who write crap I don't want to read.

I agree we shouldn't be bashing Poyser, as a fan, just stating he shouldn't be playing as much. It was a total swing and miss by the staff on him. He didn't produce well at UNLV, and it was a lot to ask of him to be Mobley here. As for his age, he isn't 19, he is actually 22! He is a grown man, and should be able to put up with a little criticism. There are guys younger than him in the NBA, that get signed and released or negatively criticized on a day to day basis. I understand we should be better than that because we are supposed to be what's good about Bona, I get that but we also have the right to state our opinions in a non derogatory way!
As for the statement that the 900k 55 year old coach shouldn't take some of the blame, well he should. We are 4-10! Any other school that's in the top half of college basketball, their fans would also look at the coach and say "what is going on man"!

Our struggles at 4-10 is tough to stomach, especially after success shown in recent years. Criticism of the TEAM’S shortcomings (in spite of injuries) is totally justified. I find it interesting that we have such a bad record in spite of shooting better than our opponents (better FG% & Trey%), shoot better from the stripe, turn it over less, have a +1.1 turn over margin, have more steals, three double digit scorers, more blocks (thanks to OO) but can’t win.
Our Achilles heel Is rebounding (-2.4 reb margin), not getting to the line (we have taken 218 FTs to our opponents 271), foul problems (we fouled 262 times to opponents 235) and lack a consistent go to inside scorer (OO & Amadi combine for 10.5 ppg). Poyser has been singled out for a lot of criticism. He has not shown what many were predicting. In spite of his struggles (in 14 games, following a long lay off) he is our # 3 scorer at 13.4 ppg, shooting 38% FGs, 33% Treys, 84% FTs, tied 3rd on the team in steals. His poor play of late earned him only 17 mins coming off the bench in the GM loss. I have hope that he will improve over the course of the season. A big factor in his improvement will depend on taking to the rim a LOT more. 50% of his shots have come from beyond the arc. Not a good formula for success because he will probably end the season hitting treys at no more than a 36% clip. I continue to feel he can take it to the rim, absorb contact, & get to the line where he is golden. Our Wed game against the Hawks is critical in terms of restoring a level of confidence especially with so many young players. I agree with the point made several times by the announcer for the GM game. St Bonaventure will be a different team 4 or 5 games into conference play & a tough out. Time will tell.
