Forty-seven years ago I made my first trek to Bona's, up Route 17, most of it 2 lane highway (the trip required crossing the Hudson River - there was no Newburgh-Beacon Bridge, so we took the ferry). Well yesterday, after picking up my daughter from camp in the Pocono's, I was back on old Route 17, and what jogged my memory was stopping at the Roscoe Diner after an over 40 year lapse. Took my 13 year old into the diner, and viewed all the banners of the many colleges (hundreds of them). I then did my mandatory search for those saying St Bonaventure. I found two, both were pretty old.
Any way, the food was still good, the place was crowded, and memories of old Route 17 and all those towns, like Livingston Manor, Hancock (I think the C o c k will get deleted), etc woke up some long lost thoughts of a time that is long past.

Other place to remember on old Rte 17 are Smith Home Farms near Elmira, O'Brien's on Waverly Hill (O'Brien's also used to have a restaurant in Waverly called O'Brien's Down on the Ground), and the scenic, high watershed divide between Greenwood and Jasper. Last time I was at O'Brien's, the restaurant was closed and only the hotel was open-no more take out sausage.

I stopped at the Roscoe Diner many times on my trek from SBU to Connecticut. Love that place and the food was great. Heard they got some serious flooding this summer. Is that true?

Terrible flash flooding as all those creeks in that area oveflowed almost at once.Trying at this point to have it declared a disaster area.
