I was wondering if anyone had the date for E-vill's Octoberfest. I have been looking for an offical date but can't seem to find one. My guess is that it is on the weekend of the Oct. 6, due to the fact that it is Bona's fall break. Should be a great alumni gathering as usual.

Oktoberfest in Munich When you hear the word "Oktoberfest", it's almost certain that one thing comes to mind... Bavarian Beer!
The truth is, there is much more behind-the-scenes information that lurks beneath the countless years of this world-renowned Bavarian tradition.
The next Oktoberfest takes place from September 22nd until October 7th 2007 - Don't miss it!

Which brings up an old point....why does SBU not have their alumni weekend in the Fall when all alumni are looking for a reason to take a drive thru upstate NY rather than having it in February when nobody wants to risk a long snowy ride up Rt 17 Current alumni weekends are 90% 1st & 2nd year grads....its because they are the ones who would attend alumni weekend whenever it was held........if the school wises to attract alums other than only 1st year grads....switch it to the Columbus day weekend I know Niagara University and many others all have their alumni wekend in october for this exact reason

Good point jh...I've never thought of coming up just for the sake of a "home coming" of sorts as I get older.

Mid-October is a great time to visit Bonas.
Schedule the soccer teams at home. Opening night basketball festivities. Begin selling single game basketball tickets. Schedule a concert. Open the Skellar.

Let's be honest; many alums that come up for that weekend stay in E-ville and dont even see the campus. Many schools also have theirs in the fall to revolve around football. Bonas main attraction is the basketball program, so it is going to revolve around that instead.

Bonas main attraction is the basketball program, so it is going to revolve around that instead. Just another hunch - the obnoxious mobs at the Ellicotville fall fest is tolerated again by recent grads (who have far less $$ and donate far less$)....I would wager the majority of alums that are above 30yrs old would have no problem choosing a get together back on campus that weekend (Bonas own mini oktover fest) over fighting the obnoxious crowds in E'ville. The main purpose for an alumni weekend is to get as many of them back to campus as possible - feeling connected again to the campus often translates to being a willing donor.

I already have my reservation for the "legendary" corner suite at the DeSoto. Family Weekend, Alumni Weekend and Bonagany all rolled into one? Where would every body stay? Salamanca? E-ville? That's too many people for the immediate Olean/Allegany area to handle if you want to be close to campus (isn't that the point?)

Good point, clubhouse I doubt Western NY would be ready for something like that. Fall is the best time of year at SBU but the major draw for an alumni weekend would be a big sporting event. I doubt many people would make a long drive to watch soccer.
