Maurice Thomas, a 6'8" transfer from UTEP who was a big time scorer will be enrolling for the Fall Semester. Obviously, he will sit out next year but should add some offensive for the 2008 season. Also heard that Delonte Taylor, a 6'5" swingman from Philly will be enrolling as a freshman with immediate eligibility. The coaching staff has really done a great job in rebuilding this program for the upcoming season.

Thomas is a sophomore from Philly who seems to have been a big time recruit 2 years ago with schools like Tennessee interested. He averaged just under 10 points last season as a sophomore and logged alot of minutes off the bench.

Taylor is an ultra athlete with incredible leaping ability. At 6'5", he blocks a lot of shots and scores very well in transition. He is the cousin of teammate Chris Matthews. Originally from Washington, DC.

Will the 3rd roster spot / scholarship be filled as well this year (2007-2208 season) or will it be saved for the next recruiting class (2008-2009 season)?
There was some speculation of another signee who would be eligible in the 2nd semester...... any news?

He averaged just under 10 points last season as a sophomore and logged alot of minutes off the bench. If he scored 10 points a game as a sophomore last season, doesn't that make him a junior now? Either way, it looks like two more quality players on the roster. Matthews and Thomas are allowed to practice with the team this year, correct?

Im from the Philly area and this is the first time I've heard of this school. HBO real sports did a segment on these "prep" schools a few months back. The NCAA has turned a blind eye in the past but i think they are going to start policing these types of programs. On the other hand, I hope it works out for SBU.

Come back in off the ledge, 02level and DON'T JUMP!!!! You're jumping to all sorts of conclusions - this administration and the new coaching staff aren't going to tolerate the sort of missteps that occurred during the Wick / Lane / JVBK days - Luthern Christian has graduates playing college ball on campuses all over the USA - we're not talking about accepting credits from a junior college for purposes of meeting graduation requirements at a 4 year university - further, were there concerns about the school / signee, the Clearinghouse would review the case before allowing him to play - that doesn't appear to be the case, here.

Remember, Chris Matthews also went to that school, and he seems to have done well at Washington State. I agree that the NCAA needs to police these places, and it is a red flag that our school needs to check into (we can't afford not to).

I trust that we are already sending Taylor's transcripts to the Clearinghouse to have them tell us that he is eligible. If they say thumbs up, there is no way we can get in trouble. The NCAA had had their eye on Philly Lutheran for years now.
If that simple thing was done a few years ago, we wouldn't have had to suffer through the last 4 years.
Welcome aboard, guys! You have certainly come to a place that needs your production.

;)I heard the staff is very actively pursuing one other possibility and maybe another for the last scholarship. If neither pans out I would imagine they would save it. TAYLOR sounds like a player but my concern with him is his age, is he a 20 or 21 year-old freshman?
