No, I'm not talking about these Road Warriors... ...I am talking about these road warriors: Lost in the shuffle that is our collective excitement has been our 5-0 road record. Throw strength of schedule out the window and ask teams like George Washington or Fordham if they'd take a 5-0 away-from-home resume. Winning on the road in college basketball is one of the most difficult things in sports. Look back to Jim Baron's days: Those teams struggled immensely on the road even in their best years. Remember losing at Wisconsin-Green Bay in 2000? Terrible stuff. Schmidt's teams, though, COMPETE. We have that swagger back--that undeniable will to stick it to opponents and their fans. It's the same swagger a team like Xavier has. It's the stuff that helps a program succeed. Players like Ray Blackburn, Grease Thomas, and Malcolm Eleby thrive in that setting. Quietly, Andrew Nicholson has that swagger. He is the ultimate student section silencer--boasting awe-inspiring, thunderous hammer dunks and sledge hammer blocks that send shock waves through opposing arenas. As we go forward, I hope the road warrior tag remains with the Bonnies... I also hope all Bona fans appreciate the attitude Mark Schmidt has brought back to our tremendously proud program. Thanks, Coach!

Who is in the middle of Marques Green, Ernest Bremer, Bobby Jingles and Jumpin James? Great picture, great post. Marlon Miller. He was a 6'9" transfer from Nevada. While he didn't get a lot of playing time on Baron's teams, he manages to be a great Bona trivia character to this day.

Also i see Quadir Habeeb is in that picture as well. If this team only had another legit big man to go with PVP they would have been NCAA bound that year.

Worst-dressed player to quit a Bona team before the A-10 Tournament? He never played. I can't think of anything else. [Edit: Not only was Jumpin' James Hayden the man, he was a dynamite athlete who could shoot it a bit. Also, look at how fully drenched Quadir Habeeb is. Did he take a dip in the RC pool prior to the photo shoot, or did coach bust his chops just a little harder that day?]

I will give you information that I remember starting from the back
Robert Cheeks- A partial qualifier kid much like Daquan cook. A great guy everyone seemed to get along with him on campus. I believe he went on to be an elementary teacher. He was 6'5 and played center most of the time gave a lot of effort, but lacked in height.
Vidal Messiah- The better of the Canadian package (Elton Ruddock the other). He gave team fits as match-up because he played like a PF but had the skills of a 2/3. He was streaky as a 3 pt shooter but when he was on he was very good.
PVP Pete Van Passen- One of the most skilled big men Bona has in the past 20 years I would assume. He was a 6'11 lefty who unfortunately was limited at times with an ankle that never seem to heal. He was great from 15' and in and was a warrior in all meanings of the word.
Andy Stinson- a walk-on from Corning West, didn't really do much was probably much more skilled than other walk on's we have today. He was 6'5 or so.
Patricio Prato- Hailed from Argentina always found a way to score in double digits would score from 3 pt land or put backs off rebounds. He was your typical foreign player who was scrappy. He was a funny guy to have on your floor, always wanted chinese and receipts from Topp's. I will never forget when he told us he had no clue he fouled out in the NCAA Tourney game where I think he scored 20.
Row 2-
Quadir Habeeb- not much on talent, but a big body who loved to dance down the floor when he scored the student section loved it. I think he transferred to Hampton and became a rapper or a poet.
Kevin Houston- JUCO transfer who transferred from Miami before that. He was the go to man as a scorer. He was lights out this season I believe. I want to say this was his only season as a Bonnie, but I may be wrong.
I believe the next guy is Orion Garo- another line of failed big men for Jim Baron after recruiting Cyrus and PVP. All i remember about him is his first game he had no clue where to stand for a foul shot
I think the next guy is Eric Siegrist if it is him... He was hailed as a great shooter, but that was never seen at Bonaventure he would transfer to Marist I believe
Row 3- Ernest JR Bremer- a combo guard, the guy you wanted in clutch situations. Probably best known for his 3 in the corner against Temple. He filled the void as a freshmen for Tim Winn when he was suspended. He was one tough guy and very strong. Him and Houston were probably the 2 best guys on the team that year. JR went on to the Celtics and Cavs and could not find consistency from 3 pt land.
James Hayden- Athletic guy, played good defense, but never found consistency on the offensive end
Row 4- Jingles- He was not the most prolific player in Bona history had his moments though where he contributed. I probably most remember him for running around the library in my public history class with the brown indian head dress on
Elton Ruddock.- supposedly came as part of a package for Messiah. He was a big guy, but just never found consistency
Last row (closest to the camera)
Marques Green- A 5'6 pg who could absolutely fly up and down the floor was capable at any moment of scoring on you. He had a great outside shot and would get better every year. He ran the show well as a freshmen pg on this team. He was a deadly 3 pt shooter.

With all the talk about the Bonnies road efforts as of late, I thought I'd take a look at where, over the last 89 years of our storied program, the Bonnies have traveled. The following is a list of states that, to the best of my knowledge, the Brown Indians have not visited: Alaska Colorado Idaho Minnesota Mississippi Montana Nevada New Hampshire North Dakota Oregon South Dakota Utah Washington Wyoming Colorado, Mississippi, where we'll play this year, Oregon and Utah surprised me since we've played schools in some of those states. In terms of venues, the Meadowlands Arena, Market Square Arena, somewhere in Niagara Falls, Ontario, and the former Elmwood Music Hall in Buffalo are some of the more interesting locales Bona's has blessed. Among my favorite venues to watch the Bonnies have been The Spectrum, Hawk Hill and the Reilly Center. Of course, Bona's hasn't won on Hawk Hill in 14 years, when we did so in 1995 en route to our first post-season in 12 years. Tomorrow the Bonnies will attempt to do something that, our 2003 forfeited game aside, we haven't done in 11 years by winning on another hill, Rose Hill. By the end of 2009, the Bonnies will have played in 37 of the 50 states, as well as Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, birthplace of the program's most pivotal player, Andrew Nicholson. Tim Kurkjian says, "Wow! Isn't that amazing!?"

What day in February did Mayor Quinlan declare "Marques Green Day" again? I need to mark my calendar.

Great Post! Boy- that was a talented team. Houston was just Awesome! I really thought Matthews was that type of player. Unfortunately the early signs prove that is not the case.

What day in February did Mayor Quinlan declare "Marques Green Day" again? I need to mark my calendar. March 6, 2004 - Marques goes the distance, going off to the tune of 29 points, six assists and six steals over 40 minutes in an 81-75 Bona victory over Fordham before 5,254 fans on Marques Green Day in Olean. Not only was he not the only player on his team to hit six treys that afternoon, his 29 weren't even good for high scorer honors. I don't recall Green's teammate's six three's as much as I recall this talented, volitile Ram going off from all areas of the court, dunking, shooting, screaming, punching and catching a 'T' in the process. statsheet.com/mcb/games/2004/03/06/fordham-75-st-bonaventure-81
