That sure was ugly. Coach Schmidt was so mad he didn't even come out for his post game interview. I think we should play all our games on the road, we are undefeated there(just kidding)

Did not come out for post game interview? Why? Didnt he want to explain to the Bona faithful that were at the game why did not Mo Thomas play but 1 min. in the second half? Why did Daquan Cook sit the entire game until the 3 minute mark? I think maybe for the first time I have a few question marks for coach Schmidt. I just dont think today he gave us our best chance of winning. I am still a Schmidt supporter but man o man I too am frustrated today.

Mami- Schmidt cannot make the shots or play the defense. We will have more games like this. Hopefully 6 more A10 wins and maybe we get hot in AC. The next 3 seasons with Nicholson will be great to follow.

True, it was not pretty but I think we got a little carried away with the 10-4 stuff. Let's face it, our best player is a freshman. We have a good young core as we have Andy, Davenport and Eleby all underclassmen. Our transfers are just not as good as advertised. Our "best shooter" can't hit a three when the clock is running 80% of the time. Our horse that was going to give us attitude and rebounding can't seem to get out of the doghouse because of his attitude, which was one of his problems at the other school. And our achilles this season continues to be TO's. The bulk of the TO's come from our PG's and Hall, which is expected. Eleby is still young, and Blackburn and Hall are still new to D-1 ball and our schedule didn't really give a solid indication or idea of conference play (except for Niagara).
We are still two years away from being a top school, but I would expect us to win 13-14 this year, 16-17 next year, and I would expect that games like this will be more the norm this year with the occasional breakout game where all cylinders click. Next year I would expect to be competitive in almost every game with less bad games. In 2 years, Eleby and Lewis will be a seniors, Nicholson, Cook and Davenport juniors, and Conger and Simmons and ? sophomores.
We should expect 20 that year and postseason. In the meantime, enjoy the season, remember where we were last year and look forward to where we are going.

Bigdobber: cool it with your whine" Coach can't make the shots....etc"...hey , could he give us an offensive set where just once we had a wide open three...and where's the heart and desire his teams are supposed to be known for...they weren't just beaten in the last two home cames (Niagara and Duquesne) we were THRASHED and outhustled big time. He persists w/Mathews who is a waste...that may be harsh but he can't shoot, he cant handle the ball and he cdoes not move without the balll. Sit him down for pete's sake and maybe he'lll wise up but heaven help us GET A GUARD!!!!!

Matthews needs to pull the trigger on his 3 shot he looks to be thinking to much, hesitates, shows no confidence. Does he ever attempt any shots inside the arch?Move in for a 15 footer get your shot dropping first than hit the three. Love Danvenports effort has open look does not hesitate to shoot. Teams will start to collapse on Andrew in the paint for kick outs for wideopen looks in years to come, hope we recruit some shooters.

Coach did not come out for his post game interview with Nease. Jackson gave our guards a lesson on how to play the point. No surprise since he is one of the very best in the country. Trying to look for a positive after this loss. Not easy but The Professor, in my opinion, outplayed Evans who is the only other frosh who shares with Andrew the most weeks named as A10 Rookie of the Week. There were two other nice positives for the day at the RC. The 4,200 plus crowd in spite of the weather & the Lady Bonnies win to go 12-4 & 1-0. Edwards had 27 points. Hope all got home safely.

Losing the game is one thing but the way the team reacted on the bench during time-outs as well as during the game really has me concerned. Blackburn, Eleby, Davenport and Thomas all had issues with Coach at some point . Thomas about blew a gasket in the second half during a timeout and shrugged away his teammates when they tried to talk to him. Coach not coming out for the post game show had to be more to do with the teams attitude and verbal confrontations than anything else. Coach did have an even shorter fuse tonight with everyone. Guys seem to quit in the latter stages even though the score became tolerable. Lets hope things get straightened out in a hurry and he doesnt lose these guys. St. Joes with no students could be even uglier.

My frustrations today came primarily from two areas. 1) There was a general lack of effort for great stretches of the game. We got beat to most balls and made too many lazy careless mistakes. I understand Coach is frustrated by it, but I sense the players growing frustrations from the constant cycle of being yanked for every mistake. Yank for lack of effort, yank when they need to be brought out and coached on something, but don't hank for the sake of yanking and destroy the flow of the game, and the attitude and confidence of the players.
2) To me it would appear to come from the coaching or the preparation, but the only true advantage we had on offence was Nicholson. They did not have anyone that could contain him, yet for most of the game there seemed to be very little effort made to get the ball into him. A little more happened in the second half, but still not enough. He was 7-8 and could have had a lot omore points if more effort was made to exploit there one weakness.
We are are going to suffer mightily against quick teams, as we did today and with Niagara. But we need to take better advantages of the few opportunities we have, and felt we failed miseribly to do so today.

I could not make it to the game due to a prior commitment but it sounds as though Bona's doesn't work special plays on offense to free up shooters. For example, double screens would give Mathews more time to launch shots and with his height, they would not be blocked. The attitude problems are more difficult to control. Too bad we didn't get E2 last year or Burton. They could create on offense. Eleby's a shooting guard that struggles shooting, and Ray try's to be too creative with the ball. I've noticed that players don't continue moving without the ball. That can kill the offense but still defense 1st is how to be the most competitive. The players have to believe in it. Coach has to find some way to make them want to play D.

We shot 46% from the field, 37.5% from the arc, 72% from the line and scored 80 points on a Duquesne team whose opponents prior to this game avg. 72 ppg. (Pitt scored 78 against them) Offense was not our problem in this game. We let them score 98 at home, that is the problem.
I say this because all this talk about giving the ball to nicholson, matthews taking shots, and eleby being a better pg while perhaps valid does not relate to this loss very much at all. Granted Duquesne was hot shooting the ball, but we need to protect the perimeter and force teams to drive inside to match up with nicholson, a player I feel can handle the pressure. I just feel like to many times we were saying let them take the deep shot, we should have pressured the the deep shooters and take the risk inside with nicholson/carter having to be responsible for any inside threat.
