Haven't posted in a while, but I just have to get something off my chest.
I wasn't high on Malcom last year, and he has failed to meet the low expectations I had of him this season. I admit to being hopeful about Blackburn's arrival, but I can't say that he has done a lot to impress me.
With our guard play being so poor (I am throwing in the lackluster/inconsistent performances of Matthews with the point guards), why is it that for so much of this game, Eleby and Blackburn were on the court together for so long, especially in the second half?
Blackburn and Eleby had 24 minutes each, while Davenport had 14. Why not take a couple minutes from the tandem of questionably skilled point guard and give some more to Davenport at the 2? Davenport may look to shoot too quickly and too often, but Matthews takes longer to cue up a shot than most any other "pure shooter" I have seen play.
The best thing I can say about our backcourt is that Davenport shows potential, but when he gets yanked for every minor mistake, I see shades of Solomon. I keep hearing that he doesn't get the offense, but how much of a chance has he had in games to learn it?
I am not saying that Davenport is the next coming of JR Bremer, but when we are as out of synch as we were tonight, I would rather see more of him than any combination of the uninspired play of the unproductive Eleby/Blackburn/Matthews three-headed non-monster.
The entire team should feel pain for this loss. Duquesne was a very good team, but we embarrassed ourselves. If we can't get our guard play squared away, any team with a decent backcourt will have its way with us, ala Niagara and Duquesne.
