This kid is laying an egg. He cannot shoot, he cannot handle the ball and he cannot move without the ball. He misses shots or he doesnt take them and is good for several turnovers a game. Sit him down and maybe riding the pine for a bit will help him. We just got hammered by a Duguesne team that starts two sophs and two frosh and has a 7"2" 290 pound transfer from Kentucky who will have 3 years of eligibility next season. They will be a problem for years to come...that team was dominant/fast/nasty/tough/and very, very good! We have got to go out and get some guards or we are not going to be able to compete. Eleby and Blackburn are BRUTAL and while we may beat Fordham again, I see us w/maybe 3 A10 wins tops. This team lacks punch...they are easily beaten on defense and their offense comes up missing too much of the time. Schmidt was so pissed off he didnt come out to do his radio show...I'm dying to hear his thoughts on the team's play

Amen to that. Is he in a funk, or is he just not good?

Oldschool - it's sort of a combination - he's just not funkin good.
Just kidding. Mathews has limitations - can't put the ball on the floor, not a good defender, too many turnovers/lazy passes. But I think he's closer to the good shooter we saw the first 3 games than the very shaky one we've seen for the last 10. In the first 3 games everything he threw up went in. So he started firing up shots without having his feet set and body squared up and his shots stopped falling. Now I think his confidence is shot. But I don't think his cold streak will last as long as a certain poor senior small forward ( I really do feel for that kid) I think Mathews can be a very effective weapon off of the bench as a 3 point specialist, which may become his role as we see more of Davenport and then Leonard next year.
