Wow.
I'm not sure which is more frustrating ... watching last night's awful performance, or seeing the unbelievable reaction to it today.
Remember when we all said that this was a young, inexperienced team that would win some games we shouldn't win, and lose some that we shouldn't lose?
The ladder explains last night. Don't get me wrong, it was an absolutely awful performance. St. Joe's played terribly, and we really should have won that game. I don't think I have EVER seen a team miss that many easy layups or 4-8 footers in my life.
That said, there are going to be games like this. More importantly, there are going to be STRETCHES of games like this. They aren't fun - and nobody likes them - but they're reality.
I'm not condoning what happened on Saturday or last night. It's inexcusable. We should play better at home. We shouldn't shoot under 35 percent at home. We shouldn't get outrebounded by St. Joe's. For the life of me, I don't - and probably never will - understand why Andrew Nicholson played nine total minutes in the second half. I don't understand why D'Lancy Carter was on the court so much. I don't understand why Jonathan Hall is the CENTER of our offense. Seems to me (ala St. Joe's and Nivins) Nicholson should be ours.
But there's a reason that I don't understand those things, and that's because I'm not a Division I head coach. I am confident Schmidt has his reasons, and even though I disagree with the way that the last two games were handled, I still believe he is leagues better than what we had last.
That said, how in the world can some of you have the reaction you're having? Look at the title of one of the other threads right now ... it says "F Schmidt." Seriously? Or how about the one poster who actually said he had the same feeling last night that he had throughout Solomon's four years here. Let me remind you that if Anthony were coaching the game last night, we probably would have lost by 30, and not 11. Walking out of the RC after Saturday's game (at the time we were 1-1 in the conference), I actually heard a fan say that we should move to the MAAC. Because we lost to Duquesne. Wow.
Either way, this is a tough stretch. It stinks to go through this, and I hate it just as much as everyone else. But can't we all just take a couple of deep breaths. If you want to talk about the game and talk about your frustrations, that's fine by me. But don't jump off the bridge just yet. You might regret it once we start winning again.
