I just wanted to throw a message to all of the students that are now back on campus. I know that you have seen a lot of terrible basketball in your time at Bonas. However tonight is a tremendous chance to get out there and bring the RC back to what it has been in the past. I know it feels like we have been awful forever, but it was just 7 years ago that a top 10 ranked Xavier team came into the RC and got knocked off. With the students loud and crazy through and entire 40 minutes, anyone, and I mean ANYONE can come into Olean and leave with a loss. Put these guys through hell. Yell and scream and jump until you don't think you can do it anymore. I promise you, of you do that enough, this team will reward you. It may not be with a w every time, but some great basketball will follow. And you will have those moments to tell your friends and family and anyone else who will listen about how amazing it was to go to Bonas and cheer for your team and will them to victory. Get nuts. Go Bonas!

If they don't show up in large droves tonight, I guess they will never show up. There is absolutely no excuse to be an overflow student section tonight. I don't know what else the team has to do they are 11-6 in the 2nd year of Coach Schmidt which is amazing. Also don't be fair weather fans be in the game all night and be loud. If need be they should replay such games as the upset of Xavier in 2002 I believe or the famous upset of Temple with the JR bremer 3 pointer.

Since the game will be on 'regular' t.v. tonight (albeit cable/dish) does anyone know if cameras will be set up on the side of the arena opposite the student section ? The games I have watched this year on-line (@ 6 games) are all shown from a single fixed camera above and behind the students and apparently cannot pan down to show the student section. I believe the logistics of why we can't put a camera on the opposite side of the arena have been discussed here before - but it's a damn shame. Here we are with a reputation for being a great home court and, sorry red and blue seats, it's painful to look at you during the game. Is this an intentional effort to conserve your energy ? If you are one of the 3 people who does move during the game (clapping, sneazing, standing up to let the blood back in your butt) please disregard this. For the rest of you - honestly, you look dormant and it's pathetic that that's the picture that people (Recruits ?!?!) see when they tune in to a game. If I showed you 30 seconds of the stands during half time and 30 seconds while the Bonnies were on a 8 - 0 scoring run I'm not sure you could tell the difference. Yes, you paid for your ticket and it's your right to watch however you want. And yes, the team has been down for years, nothing to get excited about, blah, blah, blah. But even after great plays, or when some in the stands are trying to get loud to inspire the Bonnies on defense, you guys look like you're at a memorial service. I'm not exagerating. Stay home and watch on-line some time. There is a disconnect between the game and you guys in the stands. I mean, I wouldn't want you guys to, you know, make a scene and embarass yourselves or anything, but you can show support and enthusiasm without exerting yourself all that much. Hell, you may even get into the game and get more enjoyment out of it. Please, is there ANY way we can get the camera on the opposite side of the arena so it can show the student section I think it's worth the risk of the occasional raised middle finger on camera. Trust me, if potential recruits or regular high school students who are hoop fans and who might be interested in attending Bonas watch these games we are really dropping the ball. What could be a helpful recruiting tool is probably hurting us big time. I know you guys, like me, are watching other college games. When I see the kids (and yes, in many college arenas, believe it or not, the 'adult' sections too) fired up during the game it makes a tremendous, positive impression. And you don't have to be at Cameron Indoor, or the Cintas Center or (God forbid) the Carrier Dome. 5,000+ screaming lunatics jammed into the little ol' R.C. is a hell of an impressive sight on your t.v. I would settle for 800 raving students and 4,500 moderately enthusiastic paying costumers. When I watch games like Fordham, or LIU, or St. Francis or a lot of other MAC or MAAC schools and the arenas are dead during the games (like our reds and blues are a lot) it's pathetic. Not seeing a crowd that's into the game or a great student cheering section negatively effects the impression you get of the team, arena, and school. Is it possible to fix this ?

TV is always set up away from the bench at Bonas. This is pretty standard except for a place like Duke where they are the on the bleachers side. You watch almost any college or nba game and you say the tv camera across from the benches. There really aren't many places that have the camera on the bench side now that I think of it. You can still see the students when its on normal television because they have multiple angles and its much closer than what you see on channel surfing.

Hold up a second. The students were there in droves for PRINCETON. The students were there in droves for the EXHIBITION game against Mansfield. The students stayed a day later to be there in droves for Mississippi State.
Are we really going to ask the students to show up? Is it not a given that they will be there and be very loud?
Nobody should be worrying about the students. They should be worrying about the corner red seats, that are NEVER full. They should be worrying about people like us who sit in the blue seats, or people who sit in the red seats - worrying if they'll actually get up and cheer. I know I do, but lately not many have been joining me.
If this game isn't sold out, it d**n well isn't because of the students........

The camera deck/box at the Reilly Center faces the benches ... that's just the way it is. Duke isn't the only place that isn't like that. Vanderbilt and Penn State also come to mind.
Also remember that the student section used to be right behind the opponent's bench at the RC, until the cookie gate thing with Chaney and when the school added the blue seatbacks on that side of the floor.
Regardless, if it's a real TV game with multiple cameras, the student section will be shown plenty.

Bottom line i hope the students are starting to crank up the drinks before the game to be in good shape for the game. The noise level is what matters we can have a big crowd but in all honesty if the students aren't that into the game it will detract the impact the level of the student section. I remember at the MSU game that the student section was good, but the noise level could have been better throughout the game not just in the first and last 5 minutes. Student section, outside shooting, and defense will be the key tonight.

The students do a great job, especially this year so far. The only pet peeve I have is they don;t show up 'en masse' until almost game time. Back in my day as a student, we came in as soon as the doors opened, one hour before the tip-off. Now, they sort of straggle in.
During warm-ups is the best time to get on the opposing team !

I remember in 2002 i believe when Bona played X the after-math of the game was a treat I remember the X players shoving Bona students as they stormed the floor. Then in the runway in the tunnel a scuffle broke out between both teams I believe David West was involved which is why the visiting team does not come out the same way as the home team anymore.

It was common as the students left after the game to see bottles and cans of all variety.
